Fife House is an innovative, client-focused provider of secure and supportive affordable housing and services to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area. With approximately 110 staff working across 6 locations, in Fife House served more than 850 residents and clients by providing supportive and transitional housing programs as well outreach programs to homeless clients and their families.

Fife House is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Residential Support Worker positions in Sherborne Apartments programs. As a member of the team, the Residential Support Worker will provide front-line client-centered and trauma-informed care to Fife House residents/clients across service locations, in alignment with unique program needs and fulfillment of relevant funding deliverables.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Residential Supportive Housing Workers support tenants to maintain their housing, develop independent living skills, and pursue personal wellness;
  • Conduct in person and telephone supportive counselling;
  • Intervene in crisis situations using a suite of deescalation techniques;
  • Documentation and entry into software programs;
  • Assist/participate in Case Management;
  • Assist/participate in Community Health Assessments and Coordinated Care Plans;
  • Provide medication assistance and coordinate appointments with external supports;
  • Oversee a portfolio of clients in partnership with external housing providers and workers;
  • Advocate to increase the quality of life of clients;
  • Distribute Harm Reduction products and provide counselling where necessary;

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum of a Community College Diploma in a field relevant to the target population (SSW, CSW, ACSW, SW, PSW);
  • A minimum of 2 years direct or transferable experience suitable to working effectively with people living in Supportive Housing / Shelter environments;
  • Knowledge of community resources relevant to the target population being served and/or demonstrated ability to search for applicable resources/information;
  • Good working knowledge and commitment to harm reduction, risk reduction, equity and diversity, antiracism and antioppression principles and practices;
  • Good crisis management and dispute resolution skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Basic computer literacy (Word, Email, Internet);
  • Experience in community mental health and/or working with people who are marginally housed;
  • Experience creating safety plans with at risk clients;
  • Basic understanding of different psychiatric conditions;
  • Experience working with addiction is preferable;

ASSET:


  • Knowledge of HIV infection in the current context, including the impact of stigma and discrimination
  • Experience working with people who come from diverse racial, gender, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and who have experienced varying degrees of mental health, social isolation and substance use
  • Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and skill training
  • Comfortability with light cleaning and grounds keeping
  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Naloxone Training
