  • Why is this role important?

    The Senior Analyst, Canadian Patient Experiences Reporting System (CPERS), is responsible for providing analytical leadership in patient experience data collection activities, conducting data quality analyses, and carrying out reporting activities as part of the program. The Senior Analyst will also provide support to clients submitting data in adherence to CPERS data submission requirements and assist in responding to client requests for information. They will work closely with other members of the CIHI team, including the CPERS Analyst and Program Lead, CIHI's Performance Improvement and Capacity Building (PICB) team, and Information Technology and Services (ITS).

    What you'll do

    1.Working with the CPERS Analyst and under the direction of the Program Lead, provides analytical leadership in updating the CPES: Comparative Results Tool and the production of information products such as the Provincial/Territorial Data Quality reports, other analytical products, etc. Activities include research and proposal development as needed, data analyses, fact-checking, and writing. The Senior Analyst would be responsible for small project management activities related to these deliverables.

    2.Provides timely and client-oriented services in response to requests for data/information from internal and external clients by generating record-level and aggregate analyses, verifying analyses, and preparing methodological documentation, ensuring compliance with CIHI privacy policies and CIHI's corporate data request processes.

    3.Provides analytical leadership in data advancement initiatives such as promoting and onboarding prospective and new clients. This includes delivering education sessions related to implementing CPERS requirements and responding to questions regarding data elements, data submission processes, onboarding etc.

    4.Provides analytical leadership for CPERS data submission cycle processes and monitoring the timely receipt of quality CPERS data. This includes ensuring the tracking of data quality issues and proposing and implementing resolutions related to arising quality issues. Responsible for the carrying out of the CIHI corporate information quality framework and reports.

    5.Responsible for the accuracy and relevancy of CPERS standards, such as the data dictionary, survey tool, survey procedure manual and other documentation needed for program operations.

    6.Participates and supports system enhancement work for CPERS including intake of changes, business requirements gathering, investigating options, review or updates to technical documentation, and testing, working in collaboration with ITS staff.

    7.Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of the CPERS database and knowledge of databases used by the CPERS such as CIHI's Discharge Abstract Database.

    8.Participates and supports expert advisory group meetings and expert working groups. Delivers presentations to external stakeholders and groups at meetings and conferences.

    9.Provides mentoring and coaching to the CPERS Analyst.

    10.Participates in internal and external projects and activities as required.

    What you'll bring to the table


    •Undergraduate degree in health sciences, health policy, health economics, social sciences, statistics, or similar field. Graduate degree is an asset.

    •Three to five years' experience working in a health care research or policy environment involved in the analysis, design and dissemination of research studies and related information products.

    •Experience using SAS and Python, as well as experience in the analysis of large data sets are requirements. Experience with R would be an asset.

    •Experience with manipulating and analyzing large complex databases and the analysis of longitudinal data sets and working with health care or survey data.

    •Experience with quantitative and statistical concepts and methods.

    •Experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    •Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking and attention to detail while maintaining ability to see the bigger picture.

    •Proven effective written and verbal communication skills

    •Excellent interpersonal and client-oriented skills; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

    •Experience managing small projects in a deadline-driven environment

    •Fluency in both official languages would be an asset.
