How you'll make an impact:


This position is charged with promoting a safe/hazard free work environment, an educated and trained employee population, an operation that complies with established laws and regulations, and a safe environment that protects the Company's people assets.


Regulatory Health/Safety Compliance (30%):


  • Facilitates a comprehensive health/safety program in compliance with Federal and State/Provincial regulatory agencies, recognized best practices, and other health and safety compliance standards across the United States and Canada
  • Acts as point of contact for inquiries, audits, and inspections initiated by external Regulatory Agencies
  • Conducts or oversees investigations and prepares responses to Regulatory Agency or other inquiries in collaboration with Corporate Legal Department

Safety Hazard Recognition/Risk Mitigation (15%):


  • Performs or facilitates regular safety checks at locations to identify potential safety hazards and
  • Reviews safety inspections performed by location or facility teams
  • Works with location or facility leadership to eliminate hazards and mitigate risk

Safety Program Management (15%):


  • Annually (or as needed) reviews safety programs for effectiveness and compliance with regulatory agency requirements
  • Evaluates safety performance and determines goals needed to drive improvement; works with Human Resources, Legal, and Senior Leadership Team to identify and implement goals
  • Conducts or facilitates incident or injury investigations and reviews incident/injury reports
  • Performs root cause analysis to identify and mitigate hazards or potential hazards
  • Maintains required logs, records, and reports, and manages training requirements
  • Oversees or facilitates regional or local safety committee meetings, where required, and maintains records as needed to evince compliance

Safety Communication & Training (10%):


  • Communicates to facility/location/operational leadership, Sr. Director of Asset Protection, and Legal Department (as necessary) any critical risks, needs, or material developments or changes to health/safety program
  • Provides regular compliance reporting, as needed or requested
  • In partnership with Safety Department, Human Resources, and Legal, facilitates employee safety training program consistent with federal, state/provincial, or other regulatory requirements
  • Reviews findings from hazard analyses, inspection record, and related observations to determine additional training needs

Workers Comp/OSHA Management (30%):


  • Management of the Workers comp and return to work program
  • Coordinate with operations to make decisions on associates returning to work and workplace accommodations.
  • Update compliance logs and document workplace injuries
  • Manages annual health/safety budget

We'd Love to hear from you if:


Must have:


  • Knowledge of H&S laws for Canada and U.S./ Knowledge of CCOHS (Canadian equiv of OSHA)
  • OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing progressive programs and policies related to Health and Safety
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association 1st Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
  • Strong data analysis, change management, organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Thorough knowledge of hazard identification, emergency response/disaster management practices
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace safety, OSHA, and related Federal/State/Provincial regulations and general industry standards

Preferred skills and experience:


  • Experience in a retail environment preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness/ability to quickly adapt to changing job requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
