PWT operates four strategic business lines:
Employee Transportation Services to oil sands customers, Motor Coach Services, Transit Operations, and Student Transportation Services. PWT owns and operates a fleet of 4,000 school buses, coaches, and chartered buses and employs over 5,600 employees.

PWT has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Lead based in Edmonton.

This is a key role supervising a payroll team responsible for 15 payroll runs, 10 companies, 28 divisions and payroll for approximately 2500+ employees.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Diploma or Certificate in payroll administration with at least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Strong comprehension of employee taxation, employment and provincial, federal laws/legislation governing payroll
  • Must be current on payroll trends and best practices
  • Knowledge of Work Force Now/UKG an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills; skilled in accurately maintaining a large volume of information and data
  • Selfmotivated and able to think independently while working within a cohesive team
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to liaise with employees and department heads on issues involving payroll and employee benefits
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite including, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Adaptable to change

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly and semimonthly payrolls, including salaried and hourly paid employees
  • Compile and process payroll data such as vacation time, insurance, RRSP deductions, taxable benefits and other deductions
  • Reconcile benefit and union deductions
  • Reconcile payrolls and prepare journal entries
  • Interpret various provincial labour requirements and statutory legislations to ensure compliance regarding pay deductions, benefits, taxes
  • Union experience interpret various labour agreements to ensure compliance regarding pay and deductions
  • Process time sheets to ensure proper completion and authorization
  • Process new hires, employee terminations and employee status changes
  • Administer enrolments for Group Benefits, Group RRSP, disability claims/reports and maintain accurate records of any claim
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and Provincial Legislation within Canada
  • Calculate and process payrollrelated remittance payments on time
  • Remain current with the new and revised payroll regulations
  • Prepare monthly and yearend reporting including T4, ROE
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by ensuring a high level of confidentiality
  • Provide guidance and council to employees regarding payroll and benefit questions
  • Employee file maintenance
  • Organize and maintain employee records

Up to $75,000.00 per year
