Summary:


The Lead - Yew and Thyme Transition Houses oversees the day-to-day operations of Yew Transition House and Thyme Second Stage to create an environment where women and children residents are supported and have access to programing to support their goals.

The Lead 2 reports to the Manager - Together Against Violence.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversees the daytoday operations of Yew and Thyme to ensure effective and efficient operations including staff management, financial administration, maintenance, repairs, and renovations of the facilities and grounds.
  • Responsible for the ongoing program delivery of a 24hr/day, 7 day/week, 365 days/year program.
  • Works in collaboration with the Lead 1, Manager
  • Together Against Violence, and Human Resources Manager to recruit, onboard, orient, train, schedule, supervise, support, discipline, and terminate staff in accordance with the collective agreement and SCCSS policies and procedures
  • Follows, stays current, and implements the collective agreement.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains safety and security procedures.
  • Builds rapport with clients to secure trust, confidence, and credibility.
  • Liaises and networks with the BC Society of Transition Houses and other issuerelated organizations to establish and maintain collaborative relations.
  • Performs basic tidying, cleaning, and organizational activities as needed. Has the ability to assess minor household repairs.
  • Maintains, supports, debriefs on, and encourages selfcare practices with employees to lessen the impact of vicarious trauma.
  • Facilitates and plans staff meetings and opportunities for professional development.
  • Collaborates with other SCCSS programs to enrich program delivery and fulfill our mission more effectively.
  • Develops and implements an annual work plan and evaluation process.
  • Maintains client records and client files in keeping with program manual and SCCSS policy.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of SCCSS including participating in organizational wide initiatives and committees.
  • Collaborates with the Manager
  • Together Against Violence to develop and establish standards and accountability mechanisms including work plans, monitoring frameworks, and evaluation processes including the completion of program(s) reports, stat collection, and maintenance of relevant documents.
  • Program development and work on systemic change
  • Collaborates with the Manager
  • Together Against Violence in creating a learning environment for students and volunteers.
  • Ensures effective service delivery consistent with agency mandate and policies, meeting all legal, union, contractual, financial, and other compliance requirements.
  • Encourages ongoing compliance with accreditation standards and CARF recommendations.
  • Stays current with SCCSS programs and services.
  • May be requested to assist with other duties to aid with the efficient operation of the organization.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Postsecondary degree in counselling, social work, or social service field, plus three years of related experience in a related field or the equivalent in education and experience. Plus, two years of staff supervision or program management experience.
  • Good working knowledge of the Local, Provincial, and Federal legislation and regulations as relevant to antiviolence work.
  • Experience working effectively and in a nonjudgmental manner with clients from a variety of diverse backgrounds, including different cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience supervising employees, teams, contractors, and volunteers in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the systemic issues that need to be addressed in order to decrease violence against women and children.
  • A traumainformed practice approach.
  • Knowledge of family systems and culturally competent practices
  • Experience with program planning, evaluation, statistics gathering, report writing, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of violence against marginalized individuals, including indigenous women and children.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
