Board Member Position Postings:

Note:
All positions are volunteer and not paid. Time commitment requirements are 2-4 hours a month

Board Positions would entail the following responsibilities:

Non-executive Board person:


  • Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization's mission and programs
  • Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization and the sector
  • Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in them
  • Attend meetings regularly
  • Participate in at least 1 subcommittee as agreed to by board
  • Help with events as agreed to by the board and various internal subcommittees
  • Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work
  • Make inquiries when clarification or more information is needed
  • Understand and monitor the organization's financial affairs
  • Avoid any potential conflicts of interest
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality about students and the organization
  • Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements

Executive Board Member Positions

Treasurer_

  • Same as above with added responsibilities for the below:
  • Provides support to ED in managing the finances of the organization, including the board's review of and action related to, financial responsibilities
  • Ensures appropriate financial reports are made available to the board
  • Regularly reports to board on key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health if applicable.
  • Provides annual budget to the board for members' approval
  • Ensures development and board review of financial procedures and systems
  • Chairs the Finance Committee and prepares agendas for meetings
  • Recommends to the board whether the organization should have an audit
  • Assists in the selection of an auditor, if needed, and meets with him or her annually

Secretary:_

  • Same as above with added responsibilities for the below tasks:
  • Records and maintains the board meeting minutes and other records management as needed
  • Ensures that meeting minutes are distributed to members in a timely manner after the meeting
  • Is sufficiently familiar with legal documents (articles, bylaws, etc.) to note applicability during meetings

Committee Chairperson and/Vice Chair _

  • Same as above with added responsibilities for the below:
  • Plans and oversees the logistics of committee operations
  • Reports to the President/Chair
  • Presents committee decisions/recommendations to the board
  • Assigns work to committee members
  • Ensures committee members have the information needed to do their jobs
  • Sets the agenda for and runs committee meetings
  • Ensures distribution of committee meeting minutes
  • Works with applicable staff in achieving the objectives of the committee
  • Evaluates committee effectiveness in reaching goals and objectives
