    Position: Part-Time Operations Assistant, Dispatch Department

    Location: Peterborough, Ontario

    Hourly Rate of Pay: $25.20 per hour
    Hours of Work: Shift coverage for sick and vacation hours. Approximately 24 hours a week.

    Join our dynamic team as a Dispatcher Assistant and become a vital link in ensuring the smooth operation of our daily transportation services. In this position, you will be responsible for making decision to achieve efficiency in planning bus routes and schedules; ensuring overall coverage required to meet the scheduling demands; and evaluating, resolving and/or recommending solutions to incidents, complaints and/or accidents. Working within a team environment to coordinate the timely delivery of our service ensuring the highest level of safety to our customers.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Input charter work orders and prepare driver expense envelopes.
    • Update line run system with driver and crew information.
    • Operate a two-way radio and communicate information and instructions to drivers (e.g. schedules, route changes, road conditions, accidents, emergencies, etc.) for the purpose of advising drivers that may impact scheduled transportation services.
    • Ensure compliance with working hours, rest periods and upholding union agreement procedures.
    • Respond to service disruptions, emergencies, and unexpected incidents promptly and efficiently and notify the supervisor or manager.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager

    The successful candidate should:

    • Be able to work flexible hours and capable of covering sick and vacation hours.
    • Have at least 1 year of relevant experience in a dispatcher or similar role.
    • Be able to participate and successfully complete our initial 120 hours of training
    • Be able to multi-task in an extremely busy and high-energy environment.
    • Have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Must have strong communication and stress management skills.
    • Must have strong problem-solving skills and detail-oriented.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Capacity to remain calm and make appropriate decisions under pressure.
    • Physical ability to work long hours sitting.
    • Bi-lingual, ability to speak, read and write both French and English an asset.
