    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    GRADE 6/7 IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME COORDINATOR/TEACHER - JUNIOR SCHOOL (TEMPORARY, FULL-TIME)

    We are currently inviting applications for the temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Grade 6/7 IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator/Teacher. This position will commence September 1, 2024.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Junior School International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) Coordinator supports the general oversight of a 2-year, Grade 6 and 7 IB MYP that follows our Kindergarten - Grade 5 IB Primary Years Programme. As a Junior School Pedagogical Leadership Team member, the MYP Coordinator contributes to implementing the vision for teaching and learning in the Junior School in alignment with the International Baccalaureate philosophy and Standards and practices (2020), the most current MYP framework and the BC Curriculum within our unique Southridge context. This role also has a part-time Grade 6/7 MYP teaching responsibility.

    TEACHING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Pedagogical Leadership:

    Collaborate with the Pedagogical Leadership Team to identify and develop strategically aligned IB development plans that support implementing the IB MYP philosophy and framework within the Southridge K-7 IB PYP/MYP Continuum.

    Collaborate on researching, selecting, and coordinating the implementation of evidence-based and student-centered pedagogical practices and approaches that enhance the delivery of IB philosophy and framework and the BC Curriculum in the MYP grades.

    Collaborate as a member of the school's Junior School Pedagogical Leadership Team to help facilitate the development of and document vertical and horizontal alignment of the K-7 curriculum continuum across the Junior School.

    Co-plan and co-facilitate divisional MYP meetings and K-7 IB Continuum meetings for teachers with the PYP Coordinator, JS Vice-Principal, Learning and the JS Principal.

    Facilitate regularly time tabled MYP subject group collaborative planning meetings that guide and support MYP teachers in effective curriculum planning and documentation.

    Maintain shared Google Drives that house MYP planners and other required documentation.

    Ensure the effective communication of MYP and BC Ministry of Education expectations with the Southridge community.

    Co-plan and co-facilitate with the PYP Coordinator opportunities for parents to learn about the IB philosophy and framework in the Junior School.

    Support staffing procedures in the MYP grades, as requested by the JS Principal.

    Programme Implementation:

    Know and communicate the IB Standards and Practices specific to the MYP to faculty and leadership, and carefully monitor the school's development of the MYP.

    Collaborate with the Pedagogical Leadership team to coordinate and lead the joint K-7 PYP/MYP IB Preliminary Review, Self-Study, and Evaluation Visit process every five years.

    Work with the JS Principal and Vice-Principal, learning to ensure that required IB policies meet the most current program requirements and support their effective implementation.

    Keep IB and MYP resources current and inform faculty of relevant publications, updates, and program enhancements.

    Encourage, facilitate and model IB virtual platforms, including MyIB and the Program Resource Centre (PRC).

    Communicate IB professional development opportunities to faculty and ensure that all teachers and administrators are trained equitably.

    Maintain communication between the school and the IB, including with the school's assigned IB Programme Manager.

    Ensure the school is current with all IB documentation, fees, and requirements.

    Maintain communication between the school and BCAIBWS, ensuring that the school is represented at association meetings and is up to date with all fees.

    Effectively communicate the values, concepts, vocabulary, and development of the MYP to the school community.

    Support the ongoing integration/transition of students, faculty, and parents into the MYP program.

    MYP Teacher:

    Monitor and nurture students' academic, social, and emotional growth as a Grade 6/7 MYP subject group specialist teacher (teaching assignments and load based on the needs of the school and the subject-specific teaching experience of the successful candidate)

    Collaboratively plan and deliver the core program requirements for the assigned MYP subject groups through a student-centred, inquiry-based approach that aligns with the philosophy and framework of the IB MYP and the BC Curriculum

    Assess and report on student learning, approaches to learning, and development of the IB Learner profile attributes, drawing attention to areas of strength and areas for growth

    Integrate technology as a tool that enhances teaching and learning (1:1 laptop program, Google Classroom)

    Maintain ongoing and open communication with parents

    Guide and nurture student behaviour that aligns with Southridge values and expectations

    Support the school's co-curricular program

    Attend and participate in core school functions and special events

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor of Education (Elementary/Middle Years focus)

    Valid BC teaching certificate

    M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies, Leadership, or equivalent, considered an asset

    Recent IB MYP Training

    Experience teaching at the Grade 6/7 level in a minimum of two MYP subject groups

    Highly collegial team partner who is committed to collaborative planning and continuous professional growth as an inspiring pedagogical leader and teacher

    Effective communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults

    Proficiency with the Google

    First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain certification)

    Legally entitled to work in Canada

    Southridge offers a competitive salary and pays 4% above the Vancouver School District.
