Objective
Supervises, assigns, and coordinates the daily maintenance functions and activities for a unionized work force of Electro/Mechanical Technicians and Cleaning/Service personal.
Ensures adherence to safety rules and procedures; distributes task assignments; resolves maintenance issues; investigates accidents; inspects systems equipment; trains and/or re-certifies staff; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; strives to maintain a harmonious partnership with union rules and managerial requirements.
Duties
- Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns work activities and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
- Monitors, verifies attendance, absenteeism, punctuality, approves and submits weekly hours to the payroll department using ALISTA electronic time keeping system.
- Create reports, training documents and presentation materials with Microsoft office Suite Word, Excel and Power Point necessary for the creation of reports.
- Allocates and validates work assignments to maintenance team members utilizing the SES computer program.
- Utilizing the SES and SAP electronic data collection programs, prepares daily light rail vehicle serviceability status reports for distribution to the other Alstom project members and consortium partners.
- Coaches, trains, and motivates staff; provides staff training. Takes appropriate corrective action or recommends corrective action when necessary; provides advice and counsel to staff; provides input and/or recommends corrective actions, discipline, and termination procedures as appropriate when necessary.
- Supervises and directs the daily preventative maintenance to ensure quality workmanship.
- Schedules the medium and heavy LRV preventative maintenance inspections as specified in Workflow Management System.
- Supervises maintenance technicians for rerailing of LRV within the maintenance storage facility and mainline track territory. Subsequently supervises and directs rescue of effected LRV's back to the maintenance and storage facility bad order track.
- Conducts accident / incident prevention and investigation.
- Provides support to the division/department and others on matters as directed; serves as staff on a variety of committees as assigned; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence; attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate; ensures processes, policies, and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable provincial and federal laws, agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- +5 years of experience within railway industry
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Familiar with Quality, Cost and Delivery targets
- Knowledge of union environment in Canada
- Sense of urgency and able to meet daily deadlines
- IT literate (SAP, time recording tools, etc.)
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Fluent in English
