The LDB is one of two branches of government responsible for the cannabis and liquor industry of B.C.

We operate the wholesale distribution of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores.

In Human Resources (HR), we support a large, distributed organization with a range of services from our Talent & Compensation, Organizational Development & Change, Employee Relations and Investigations, and Organizational Health and Safety teams.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety & Wellness, the Safety Advisor is responsible for providing knowledgeable expertise to the organization and for facilitating the development and implementation of effective safety and injury prevention programs.

The Safety Advisor ensures that the LDB is compliant with the Workers Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all other relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures including the Collective Agreement.


This role functions in a fast paced, challenging environment that typically involves multiple competing priorities that require attention and resolution.

The Safety Advisor is an integral leadership role in the organization that requires strong consulting skills including the ability to transfer knowledge and to develop and maintain ongoing, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.


Special requirements and working conditions include the ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia and ability to respond after hours to emergency health and safety matters, as required.

A valid British Columbia driver's license and successful completion of a criminal record check are required.

Position Requirements:


Education and Experience:


Degree, diploma or certificate in occupational health, occupational hygiene, or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years recent, related experience*.

OR


An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered equivalent to the educational requirement i.e., 4 years of recent, related experience*.


  • Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last 6 years and must include the following:
  • Experience in delivering trainings, including presentations to large groups and facilitation of small classes.
  • Experience with safety program and policy development.
  • Experience working in or with large, unionized organizations is preferred.
