If so, join the Regional Economic Development Branch at the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade as a Team Lead, where you will lead, develop and deliver policy initiatives that contribute to regional innovation and economic growth across Ontario.


The Branch's work grapples with some of the most pressing issues facing Ontario's economy, including enhancing innovation ecosystems, attracting investment, promoting entrepreneurship, tackling business growth, supporting skills development and cultivating economic inclusion.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team that undertakes current strategic analytical, coordinate, and transformation projects.
  • Provide leadership, expertise, guidance, training and coaching to staff.
  • Maintain relationships with regional economic development stakeholders to understand regional economic priorities.
  • Provide expert advice and analysis on the dynamics of regional economies and evaluate sensitive issues relating to the impact of government policies and programs.
  • Conduct research and stakeholder consultations, identify risks, develop options for review, and present final documents to senior management.
  • Develop and implement engagements and consultations with ministry, government and external organizations that informs regional strategy, policies and programs.
  • Support new/enhanced policy development/policy projects and initiatives by coordinating and conducting research and analysis and undertaking environmental scans.
  • Represent the Ministry at internal and external engagements, working groups and policy discussions.

How do I qualify?:


Technical Knowledge:


  • You understand the strengths, weaknesses, and complexities of the province's business, economic and regional development environment.
  • You have an understanding of the dynamics of Ontario's regional economies, including geography, issues priorities, assets and key competitive factors.
  • You have knowledge of economic theory, principles, and methods.
  • You have knowledge of policy analysis, development and evaluation methods and techniques.
  • You understand the government management processes and decisionmaking procedures.
  • You have change management skills to lead change management initiatives.

Leadership and Project Management Skills:


  • You can lead multistakeholder project teams and provide technical direction and mentoring to staff.
  • You have project planning and management skills to lead a range of concurrent strategic coordination, transformation projects and change management initiatives.
  • You can effectively complete project deliverables from initial concept through completion.
  • You have experience leading and managing the development of largescale policy, programs and initiatives.
  • You have experience providing leadership in strategic policy and program development, analysis, delivery, and implementation.

Research and Analytical Skills:


  • You have policy research and analysis skills to provide regional assessments, environmental scans, and impact analyses.
  • You can lead the identification of trends and emerging issues to identify and evaluate the implications for sustainable economic development against ministry initiatives and goals.
  • You have knowledge of research principles, techniques and quantitative/qualitative methodologies.
  • You can assess the effectiveness of policies/programs against Ministry initiatives and goals.
  • You can plan, design and undertake research to conceptualize/develop policies, strategies and program frameworks.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:


  • You demonstrate sound judgement, sensitivity and a high degree of political acuity.
