Manager, Operations and Facility Management

Full-time, Indeterminate


It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country.

With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Manager, Operations and Facility Management is a member of the Corporate Services Division at TI.

The incumbent's primary focus will be to provide effective leadership and direction for all operational activities related to buildings, properties, (infrastructure and systems), the corporate fleet, IT, phone systems, corporate insurance, and contract management.

The incumbent will also ensure a high level of productivity and client service while promoting a safe work environment.


Other key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Assisting in the development of capital budgets and cost effectiveness initiatives;
  • Providing recommendations and contributing to continuous improvement projects to achieve efficiency gains and cost savings;
  • Collaborating with finance and program teams to source and qualify vendors to procure goods and services;
  • Overseeing the implementation of ongoing contract programs to constantly assess management/program needs and to ensure issues are being addressed and solved promptly;
  • Managing the operations team and additional contracted service providers;
  • Supervising all maintenance programs relating to TI's facilities;
  • Overseeing the development and continuous improvement of maintenance programs;
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with suppliers and service providers to discuss problems, potential solutions and facilitate prompt response and highquality delivery to client service requests;
  • Monitoring and ensuring that staff and vendors comply with insurance requirements;
  • Managing capital projects within established project performance standards and capital requirements;
  • Ensuring compliance to all legislated, external stakeholder/funder and TI requirements and guidelines including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, and building standards; Participating as the Management Representative on TI's Occupational Health and Safety Committee; develops and implements TI's safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives; and
  • Safeguarding TI and its clients against emergencies and risks by ensuring emergency preparedness, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity plans are developed, and having staff trained to ensure proper execution.

Qualifications:


Written and oral communication skills, strategic thinking and planning skills, computer literacy skills, financial management skills, supervisory skills, organizational skills, and negotiation skills are necessary.


The ability to work independently, manage projects and budgets, work successfully in a cross-cultural environment, negotiate and manage leases, and prepare reports and briefings is required.


Post-secondary education in a relevant field and three (3) years of experience working in the area of operations and facility management, health and safety, project or risk management is preferred.

A certification in Project Management, Occupational Health, and Safety, and/or Property Management is considered a strong asset. Previous experience working with Indigenous populations and for a non-profit organization are also assets. Fluency in English is required and the ability to communicate in Inuktitut is preferred.

An acceptable combination of related education, work and life experience may be considered.
