Position SUMMARY:


Reporting to Manager, Community Mental Health Services, the Mental Health Outpatient Team is responsible for the provision of a full range of client-centred clinical services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, completing clinical risk assessments, providing consultation, collaboration, coordination, education, advocacy, and liaising with community partners including primary care.

Working as a member of the multidisciplinary mental health outpatient treatment team, the Psychotherapist is responsible for providing a range of structured group and individual cognitive based treatments that are effective for post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, adjustment disorders, interpersonal trauma, substance use and co-occurring disorders.

The Psychotherapist will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity and encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

The Psychotherapist works in accordance with BGH policies and the regulations of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.


There is also an expectation that the Psychotherapist will participate in hospital wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy client-centred environment as well as contributing to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Requirements:
Education/Experience:


  • Master's Degree in in Psychology, Master's Degree of Science in Psychotherapy, Master's of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology from an accredited postsecondary institution
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with people who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness/substance use disorder in an Acute Mental Health setting, Community Mental Health setting or Mental Health Crisis Team
  • Demonstrated experience completing risk assessments, including suicide prevention, and understanding the principles of crisis theory and intervention
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development as evidenced by participation in programs, courses, seminars that enhance skills and knowledge
  • Ability to develop solid partnerships with primary care, health and social service agencies, and other agencies.
  • Valid BCLS and CPR certification
  • Completion of Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) is required
  • Knowledge of Crisis Management is preferred
  • Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training is required
  • Current drivers abstract, a Valid Class G Ontario driver's license and current vehicle insurance in good standing is required to participate in community programming

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Proven ability to conduct clinical risk assessments
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills for both telephone and persontoperson
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing treatment methods such as individual, group and family therapy, to persons with an acute and/or severe mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of inpatient and community based resources for youth, and adults with mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience providing a range of evidence based therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, MBT, Trauma Informed Therapy, Motivational interviewing and crisis intervention/management
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including, but not limited to, The Mental Health Act, The Regulated Health Professionals Act, The Substitute Decisions Act, The Health Care Consent Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment methods
  • Strong clinical assessment skills in mental health and substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing treatment to persons with an acute and/or severe mental illness
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of community resources, programs and agencies available for clients with mental health/substance use disorders and their families/significant others
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment including participation in treatment consultations
  • Experience working in a computerized environ
