About our Destination Development & Marketing Group


The Destination Development & Marketing Group is focused on driving sustainable year-round visitation through program and initiatives that positively impact Edmonton's image and awareness in regional and international markets.

More specifically on the destination development side, we help develop and showcase the amazing tourism experiences Edmonton has to offer visitors.

We work closely with local businesses, ground operators, attractions, experience providers and festivals to help develop products and experiences that are authentic to Edmonton.


About the Position:


The Global Marketing Team is looking for a Marketing Account Specialist, Business Development to join the team This position assists with the Sport & Culture and Business Events B2B and B2C marketing campaign development, content marketing, and online marketing strategies.

Working in collaboration with the Marketing Account Manager, Business Development and the Global Marketing team, the Business Development Marketing Specialist will support all marketing activities undertaken within Sport & Culture and Business Events with the goal of increasing event booking conversions, increasing economic impact through event attraction to Edmonton, increasing inbound travel, adding value to the rights holders/event producer experience, increasing positive brand recognition of Explore Edmonton and Edmonton at large, and generating positive coverage and engagement with the Sport & Culture and Business Event brand platforms.


  • Support with the execution of B2B sales campaigns with the goal of increasing event booking conversions.
  • Support with the execution of B2C campaigns with the goal of increasing economic impact, inbound travel, and stakeholder satisfaction with Explore Edmonton's marketing services.
  • Develop social media plans and content calendars for the Business Events and Sport & Culture portfolios in collaboration with the Strategic Communications and Creative Digital Marketing teams.
  • Develop and build content for monthly newsletters.
  • Provide project management support by developing project briefs and summaries, report on project performance, and regularly update Brand Toolkits.
  • Conduct general market and competitor research and present to the Global Marketing team.
  • Execute on campaign strategies by liaising with stakeholders, vendors, and the wider Global Marketing Team to deliver on projects goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with Event Development to support brand & design deliverables for events.
  • Postsecondary education in commerce (marketing), communications, or related field.
  • 35 years of marketing and/or communications experience.
  • Experience working and collaborating with a large internal marketing team is considered as asset.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with inbound sales and B2B marketing practices.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with event and consumer marketing practices.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with traditional, digital and social media as well as public relations.
  • Ability to manage major projects and competing priorities while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous tourism, events or hospitality industry knowledge and experience is considered assets to the position.
