Champlain College Saint-Lambert is seeking the services of a LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (NURSING), for a full-time replacement position (35 hours per week) in the department of Curriculum and Faculty Development.


  • FUNCTIONS
  • Reporting to the Dean, Curriculum and Faculty Development, the Laboratory Technician assists the Faculty of the Nursing Program in teachinglearning activities in the capacity of demonstrator, monitor, primarily in the clinical laboratory and fieldwork settings.
This incumbent plays a central role in the organization and operation of the clinical laboratory, including evaluation and procurement of clinical equipment and materials in compliance with relevant legislation and standards (ex:

Nurses Act, Protocole d'immunisation du Québec (P.I.Q.), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety Standards (SST), Canadian Patient Safety Institute standards (CPSI), Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ).


  • Assist Faculty in teachinglearning activities
  • 1. Prepare teachinglearning resources for clinical laboratory sessions such as, equipment and supplies for teaching skills, didactic material, skills checklists, clinical procedures documents etc, as well as dismantle and store supplies and equipment following clinical laboratory sessions and simulation events/scenarios;
  • 2. Provide direct assistance to Faculty in teaching/learning sessions, both in the physical setting (the classroom, simulation centre) and (when necessary) online.
  • Facilitate student learning
  • 3. Schedule student practice sessions;
  • 4. Provide guidance and instruction to students, subsequent to the initial skills learning session;
  • 5.

Assist students in using learning resources:
eBooks, simulations (ex: with

  • Mannequins) and Webbased learning;
  • 6. Prepare laboratory kits for students;
  • 7. Maintain student immunization records;
  • 8.
Participate in the selection of appropriate wearing apparel (ex:
masks, uniforms, etc.).

  • Ensure the operations of the clinical laboratory
  • 9. Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies* and maintain uptodate records of laboratory material;
  • 10. Maintain equipment in optimal working order via a prescribed auditing system;
  • 11.
Ensure that the security of laboratory premises and the hygiene standards are maintained (ex:
overall
- cleanliness of the facilities: cupboards, linens, equipment, etc.);

  • 12. Manage resources efficiently through the rational utilization of equipment and material, minimizing waste and ensuring appropriate recycling;
  • 13. Maintain his/her knowledge base in regard to regulatory standards, best practices evidencebased information with respect to clinical technologymaterials, care procedures, etc
  • NB:

As relevant, these responsibilities are carried out in collaboration with other departments/sectors, such as, the Buildings & Equipment of Champlain St.

Lambert and those responsible for procurement and management of materials at College Administration.


Requirements:


Education:


Must possess a diploma of college studies (DEC) in the appropriate specialty, in particular Nursing, or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

A member of l'Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) would be an asset.

Must be able to communicate in English and French, both oral and written.
Must be comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite.

Asset
Experience with simulation learning environments;
An understanding of, and experience in, the Canadian healthcare system;
Experience teaching theory and clinical practice.


Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). During the semesters, overtime will be required based on laboratory schedule.

Salary Scale: 24.21$ $
