Description

The Role of Development and Communications Coordinator is to work alongside the Leadership team and in conjunction with community to support activities in respect to fundraising and to focus on the development and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships in the wider community.

The Development and Communications Coordinator will enhance our visibility, reputation and form financial and in-kind partnerships that help support the continued growth and health of L'Arche Homefires.

We are looking for someone who values genuine relationships, is a confident communicator, is innovative, has experience with fund development and donor management, has experience with sustainable revenue in the non-profit sector and willing to think outside of the box.


Location:

L'Arche Homefires is a large, dynamic, diverse, and energetic community. We have five homes and an Independent Living Support program spread throughout the Wolfville area. Our day programs and offices are located at the L'Arche building at 341 Main Street in Wolfville.


The Development and Communications Coordinator will be based at the office on Main Street and will also spend time in our homes and programs.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Learn and understand the Identity and Mission of L'Arche; adhere to the core documents of L'Arche Homefires (e.g. key traditions, policies and procedures, the Charter of L'Arche, etc.)
  • Oversee L'Arche Homefires social media platforms including content sourcing and development. Work collaboratively with respective roles in the community to integrate various social media needs.
  • Seek to build new and existing relationships with community partners to generate additional revenue for growth.
  • Update and reformat our existing website to reflect our mission, history, programming, accessibility points, and storytelling about our community life.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Leader and Administrative Assistant in planning, and development of all marketing and communication materials, including the quarterly newsletter, advertising, direct mail, etc. Ensure effective and audienceappropriate engagement through various social media channels. Analyse effectiveness of communication methods and campaigns.
  • In conjunction with the Community Leader and Finance Coordinator, assist with annual budget forecasting, and development of campaignspecific budgets. Operate within and report against approved budgets. Contribute to the annual financial audit as required.
  • Proactively identify relevant internal and external stakeholders, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial and genuine relationships. Support stakeholders to become actively engaged with our community, beyond the limitations often associated with a "business relationship". Ensure our stakeholders and donors feel valued, appreciated, and involved.
  • In conjunction with the Finance Coordinator, oversee the donor management processes, and maintain an uptodate and accurate donor database. Maintain comprehensive records of all formal and informal financial and inkind partnerships, all fundraising and income generation activities, and other community engagement outcomes.

Qualifications, Skills Needed and Position Requirements:

  • Previous L'Arche experience desirable but not essential (assistant, board member, volunteer, etc).
  • Postsecondary degree or certificate preferred. Relevant experience essential, including income generation and fundraising, event management, donor acquisition and relationship management.
  • Ability to identify with and promote the mission of L'Arche.
  • Work well in a team but have the initiative to work independently.
  • Outgoing, selfmotivated, and a strategic thinker with fresh ideas and an enthusiastic approach to their work.
  • Posses an entrepreneurial spirit with a big picture vision.
  • Have excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, preferably Office 365, and particularly Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Takes a learning/growthbased approach to their work with strong analytical skills.
  • A criminal reference check including a vulnerable sector check.
  • Holds a valid Nova Scotia Drivers license.
  • Available for work on weekends and evenings, as needed.
