We are looking for a Family Support Worker to provide community-based services for families with children from birth to 18 years who are identified as being in need of support.

Services will be strength-based and designed to increase safety and stability of the family unit.

Families will be involved in deciding which services are appropriate for them, and the philosophy of connecting families to those informal supports that they identify as being useful will guide service planning.

The Family Support Worker (FSW) will work a 35-hour work week.

The hours of service will be flexible to accommodate the schedules of families and will include after school, evening and weekends.

Services can be delivered between the hours of 7:00am -9:00 pm weekdays/weekends. Family Support Workers will be provided with a cell phone (or $70 bill credit) and a laptop.


Please note applicants who are Indigenous and/or who speak Farsi, Mandarin or Cantonese will have priority.

You must have:


  • A bachelor's degree in social work or other human services field with at least two years experience in family and children's services, or with a child and youth or other related diploma or degree with at least three years experience in family and children's services.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience with the following: parent education/training, case management, goal development, conflict resolution, counseling, advocacy, community networking and resourcing.
  • A valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Records Check
  • Clear, direct and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
  • Must hold a current NVCI certificate (or be willing to get this training prior to service delivery.)

A sample of what you'll be doing:

  • develop and maintain professional and supportive relationships with families which are consistent with the program goals.
- enact case planning that is individualized, culturally sensitive, flexible and proactive. To develop service plans guided by the client(s) voice and choice that create specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based goals that you will work together to achieve.
- support and manage a caseload that consists of between % of their full-time hours dedicated to direct service.
- provide supportive reports and updates (if required) to referring social workers that aid their decision-making process for family planning.
- provide parents with education and training, and supporting them to access/navigate community resources.
