Buy Low Foods is currently seeking an experienced
Meat Department Manager for our store located in
Burnaby (Kings Crossing), BC. This role is full-time and reports to the Store Manager.
We are looking for a strong leader who has a passion for fresh food and who can efficiently oversee the daily operations of the Meat Department in terms of staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and product quality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision to department staff to ensure quality customer service
- Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
- Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff members
- Create the weekly department work schedule
- Cut, trim, debone and prepare standard cuts of meat according to specifications using knives and power tools
- Wrap and package prepared meats
- Prepare special cuts and orders as per customer requests
- Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, covered and rotated
- Present a neat, fresh, and wellmerchandised department
- Ensure the proper set up of racks, tables, coolers, backroom areas
- Handle customer inquiries, requests and complaints in a prompt, polite and effective manner
- Keep all equipment clean, well maintained and fully operational
- Comply with the Company's established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing
- Liaise with the store manager, department heads and meat department staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming ads / promotions, cross merchandising, etc
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous, relevant meat department experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity
- Postsecondary Meat Cutting training / journeyman certification preferred
- Proven ability to process a variety of meat cuts
- Able to lead a team in an enthusiastic and positive manner
- Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide customers with a great shopping experience
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies and practices
- Ability to work in a fastpaced environment under pressure
- Able to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful situations
- Experience in effective merchandising that drives sales
- Have experience ordering and maintaining department stock
- Flexibility to work a variety of hours which include days, evenings, weekends and stat holidays
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive physical tasks for extended periods of time
- Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, handeye coordination
- Walking and standing for extended periods including bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling at times
- Physical ability to stand, lift, and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Cold environment, noisy, with some strong odours
