OVERVIEW


Reporting to the Director, Research Operations and Business Development, the Research Business Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of grants and contracts management, including overseeing pre and post-award departmental activities.


The Business Manager will report into the MGH Research and Innovation leadership, Principal Investigators, and the MGH Foundation as well as external partners to develop project and departmental reports, establish and monitor progress towards key performance indicators and to ensure compliance with granting agencies and generally accepted principles for grants management.

To be successful, the incumbent will require strong technical and organizational skills, an ability to understand and achieve business goals, work collaboratively with the finance leadership on administration of departmental and research accounts, and an ability to work and communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.


EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or in a Healthcare related field with fiscal responsibility is required.
  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience working in complex and large organizations in a similar role.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in research grant administration.
  • Experience with data management, maintaining, analyzing, and monitoring departmental financial records.
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating research budgets and contracts.
  • Healthcare revenue cycle management and research grant/contract administration experience is required.
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, working and communicating effectively with physicians, patients and staff.
  • Good judgment and problemsolving skills, with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for keeping up with current industry information and desire to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Exhibits attitude for continuous improvement and a standard of excellence in customer service.
  • Able to prioritize responsibilities and organize workload to ensure that timeframes are met.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and exhibit a high level of professionalism.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
