The Ministry of Health sees patient-centered care as one of its key priorities, making patients active agents in their health and care, empowering them to make informed decisions and choices, and fostering collaboration and partnerships between individuals, families, and health care service providers.

In support of that key priority, the Patient Care Quality team provides strategic oversight, program evaluation, and policy support for BC's Patient Care Quality program, which provides patients and their loved ones with a clear, consistent, timely, and transparent avenue for having their concerns addressed while informing local, regional, and systemic improvements to healthcare and related services based on patient experience.

Hospital and Provincial Health Services (HPHS) Division leads service transformation across the health sector, bringing together key mandated initiatives and specialized services for priority populations to add enhanced value and focus for health sector areas requiring substantive change.

Located within HPHS, the Hospital Services Branch sets the foundation for high-quality, patient-centered hospital and acute services in BC, while providing oversight and policy support for medical assistance in dying services.

The Branch also supports patient safety and healthcare quality improvement, including through stewardship of the Patient Care Quality program.

The Manager is responsible for supervising the Patient Care Quality team and managing the development, implementation, and evaluation of policy projects and strategic initiatives.
