Agency Background:

The Westcoast Genesis Society supports socially marginalized men to heal, grow, learn, develop resilience and adopt values that will enable them to thrive in the wider community.

It does this by providing transitional housing at its two Community Residential Facilities (CRFs) for high-need men on conditional release from prison, by monitoring their compliance with Parole Board of Canada release terms and by supporting them to make changes that will help them live successfully in the community.

This includes operation of a specialized program for men on conditional release with a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) at its Maria Keary Cottage residential facility.

The 20-bed Genesis House facility provides transitional housing for men on conditional release.

The 35-bed Maria Keary Cottage includes 15 beds for men on conditional release and 20 transitional and supported beds for men who chronically have no homes.

Both facilities are in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Job Purpose:

Organize and deliver the food service operation for Genesis House and Maria Keary Cottage.

Responsibilities:

Manage and operate commercialquality kitchen to high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety, industry practice and organization.
Within approved budget: plan meals according to set menus, order food stocks, prepare and serve highquality and nutritious lunch and supper meals for up to 55 residents and 10 staff members Monday to Friday except statutory holidays (residents prepare own breakfast meals).
Ensure meals satisfy religious and medical requirements as required (e.g. halal, kosher, vegan, vegetarian, etc.).

Qualifications:

Eligible for CSC security clearance.
Completion of apprenticeship program for Cooks, or equivalent training and experience. Red Seal Certificate preferred.
Experience working as Cook in institutional setting preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage and operate a commercialstandard kitchen safely, effectively, and within budget.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Valid FOODSAFE certificate and relevant WHMIS training.
Ability to communicate openly, honestly, and directly with coworkers and residents.
Ability and commitment to maintain respectful and supportive working relationship with clients and staff.
