About Val Marie and Area
Val Marie is a small ranching community (village pop. approx 125, area pop. approx 420) located 120 km south of Swift Current, SK.

It is the Gateway to Grasslands National Park, a dark sky preserve, and the first national park of Canada to preserve a portion of the mixed prairie grasslands.

The Val Marie region is a land of rolling hills centred on the Frenchman River Valley, where sky meets prairie at the northern extension of the Great Plains.

Living expenses are low, and amenities include a grocery store, restaurant, bar, cardlock gas station, tourist accommodations, post office, library, occasional concerts, and programs offered by volunteer agencies and the Park.

Grasslands draws about 20,000 engaged and enthusiastic visitors to the area each year, most of them during the summer.
