Mineralogy Project Manager
Location ALS Metallurgy, Kamloops


Reports to:
Technical Services Manager


About the Position:


The Mineralogy Project Manager is responsible for the management of mineralogy projects, and provides assistance to the mineralogy department as required.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage projects, which include the following activities:
o. Bid preparation and bid review;
p. Direct client interaction and communication;
r. Analyze data and take lead in determining direction of the testing program based upon the results;

  • Complete all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);
  • Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner;
  • Technical decision making for nonroutine, complex analyses;
  • Extracting results to be used in reports for clients;
  • Upon completion of the test program, analyze and present the data in a format suitable for using in the project final report;
  • Write final technical reports for projects under management and projects managed by others if needed using standardized formats;
  • Collaborate with senior project members and the Technical Services Manager regarding ongoing test programs;
  • Providing a mentoring role for other technical staff;
  • Represent ALS Metallurgy at trade shows, conferences, mining shows, etc. as required; these events may occur outside regular office hours;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of geological/mineralogy laboratory techniques including optical microscopy and QEMSCAN or Tescan;
  • Previous experience in a consulting function with report writing, client liaison, and project management skills;
  • Commitment to proper data management procedures;
  • Advanced communication and technical report writing skills;
  • Ability to work to deadlines;
  • Organized and detailoriented individual;
  • Highly motivated, strong sense of responsibility and excellent work ethic;
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Proven troubleshooting and technical support skills;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) required;
  • Experience in the operation of a scanning electron microscope or similar model;
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in mineralogy, mineral exploration or metallurgical processing.
Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for up to 8 hours per day;
  • Ability to view data on a computer screen and interpret results;
  • Ability to stand and reach over analytical equipment on a regular basis;
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • Please note that ALS operates week days; although attendance at trade shows or conferences may require weekend duties
