JOB SUMMARY


The Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program assists adults in our community to reach their goals of further education, employment and independence.

This position will facilitate individual and group learning programs in communication, numeracy, interpersonal and digital skills in a learner-centric manner.

Duties include learner information and referrals, intake and assessment, learner plan development, training and follow-up.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Work with learners to assist with literacy and basic skills, etc. in accordance with Ministry guidelines.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet learners' varying needs, abilities and interests within the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework.
  • Perform learner intake, and deliver and evaluate Literacy Assessments
  • Assist with exploration of interests, skills, training, experience, education, Better Jobs Ontario (BJO), apprenticeship, etc.
  • Research, plan and source resource material while also providing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to the learners
  • Plan activities for a balanced program and work time that provides learners with the opportunity to observe, question and participate
  • Provide individualized and group instruction to each learner and promote interactive learning
  • Prepare learners for further education in some cases by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks
  • Monitor, mark, track and data entry, within guidelines and procedures, each Learner's progress with culminating tasks and milestones. Administer learner supports if needed
  • Make appropriate referrals to our employment advisors and other services if needed
  • Work collaboratively with our Job Developer to make connections with employers
  • Exceptional file maintenance including case noting and CATS/CAMS entry
  • Perform learner satisfaction and other surveys
  • Record and provide program statistics and meet targets
  • Provide coverage of reception and other division if needed
  • Perform administrative duties such as maintaining filing and record systems, inventory, ordering materials, enter learner data, generate reports, monitor attendance, etc.
  • Market LBS program in the community and develop volunteer and mentoring relationships
  • Adhere to Port Cares policies and procedures and respect confidentiality and file security
  • Represent agency in community when required / network with other agencies as appropriate
  • Participate in Port Cares functions/fundraising activities as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • University degree or certificate with a focus in adult education, learning and development, instructional design and instructional technology
  • 3 to 5 years work experience in instructional, adult learning education under the OALCF is an asset
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to work with and deliver computerized learning programs
  • Working knowledge of the LBS Service Guidelines is an asset
  • Creative, energetic and enthusiastic program delivery
  • Working experience in the planning, design and facilitation of adult education
  • Experience with instructional design techniques and adult learning principles that allows you to effectively assess and evaluate learner needs in a multilevel environment
  • Respect and sensitivity for cultural, educational, diversity and social uniqueness
  • Ability to travel locally for meetings, training, etc.
  • Ensure confidential information is secure at all times and learner privacy and confidentiality is maintained according to personal privacy regulations
  • Outstanding attention to accuracy and detail relating to case noting/file management/documentation
  • A passionate educator with a strong ability to create a respectful, trusting and supportive rapport with learners
  • Work collaboratively with staff, team, learners and volunteers
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing learner, community, agency and program needs
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills together with strong English oral, written communication and presentation skills

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract


Salary:
$38,000.00-$44,000.00 per year
