GFL Environmental is looking for an Assistant Operations Manager to be based out of our Winnipeg Material Recycling Facility location As an Assistant Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing plant and their employees.

Working closely with the Operations Manager, responsibilities include hiring, training, safety, productivity, P&L performance, maintenance and business planning.

This role will have a key focus to ensure the business is well-coordinated and productive with managing its procedures and coaching its people.


Responsibility and Duties:

Able to work stat days and weekends as required
Liaise with Operations Supervisors to ensure MRF is performing to achieve the organizations budget.
Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure safe, efficient operations.
In conjunction with the maintenance supervisor, ensure PM scheduling of equipment is completed. Coordinate with operations to ensure scheduled projects to not interfere the operations requirements.
In consultation with maintenance department, ensure necessary repairs for facilities are completed properly and within manufacturers specifications.
Responsible for the safety and compliance efforts for the MRF. Work closely with Director of Environmental Health & Safety on new safety initiatives and programs added.
Ensure compliance with external processes/practices, i.e. MOL, MOE.
Manage relationships/agreements with contracts to ensure compliance.
Responsible for ensuring audit program is executed and adhered to.

Work with the Departmental teams to continually maximize the effectiveness of the production program, promoting problem solving as a team.

Manage inventory and coordinate shipments with commodities administration.
Ensure quality audits are performed daily with operations team.

Support new or additional training with respect to the project plan for all employees and ensure training records are current.

Code of Conduct - Promote Accountability, Integrity and Diligence through demonstrated behaviours and open communication at all levels.
All other duties as assigned.


Staff:

Staff training and development
Recruit operations staff, when required.
Project a positive and caring attitude toward all staff to help improve motivation and employee moral
Encourage staff to come forward with new ideas and suggestions.
Handle any grievance and/or disciplinary action with human resources.
Review employee performance reports as submitted by supervisor.


General Responsibilities:

Manage staff in a professional and courteous manor
Attend safety committee meetings and follow up on action plans
Attend meetings at the corporate office as requested.
Conduct occasional plant tours as requested


Safety Responsibilities:


Responsible for overall plant safety, safety goals and assuring that all staff are trained and comply with GFL Environmental Health and Safety Policy.

Safety is priority #1.
Conduct safety talks per assigned schedule, complete safety observation and audits. Complete near miss and accident investigations.
Communicate with JHSC to ensure safety audits are conducted in a timely manner and in compliance with safety regulations.
Promptly and correctly discipline employees' that do not abide by safe work practices as set out in the company Health and Safety Manual


Health and Safety:
When touring the operation facilities, the following Personal Protective Equipment must be worn:
CSA approved Safety Shoes
Hearing Protection
High Visibility Clothing
Gloves
Safety Glasses
CSA approved Hard Hats


Qualifications:

5 years of relevant work experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of recycling plants and/or high-speed labour-based industrial manufacturing systems.
Ability to work with a high-level direction and be an independent self-starter.
Ability to manager and lead a diverse workforce.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work hours required to meet operational requirements.
Must be flexible to work various shifts to support operations and respond to emergencies or client requests
