Summary:


Drawing upon excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the Specialist works with instructors to recruit external mentors or sponsors and deliver work-integrated-learning that support program learning objectives.

The incumbent will convene instructors, facilitate the mentoring relationship, and monitor the progress of the students who need additional support.

The Specialist is creative, collaborative, and focused on student success. The Specialist supports Program Directors, and reports to the Dean of Business.


Education/Experience:


  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, Education or Healthcare.
  • At least three years experience in academia, business or healthcare (preferred experience in a similar role)

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:


  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience at establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships
  • Able to integrate student experience with program learning objectives
  • Responsive to issues and concerns as they arise
  • Knowledge of international student rights and constraints
  • Able to prioritize tasks and take initiative

Essential Functions:


  • Work with instructors to define requirements for sponsors of workintegratedlearning projects (including capstone and applied projects in various diploma and graduate programs).
  • In collaboration with instructors, source and recruit external sponsors or mentors.
  • Match students with mentors based on their interests, skills, and objectives.
  • Communicate with students, mentors, and faculty to ensure that assignments are being completed on time and to the appropriate quality.
  • Monitor student progress and provide guidance and support as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the program head, WIL Manager, mentors, and faculty to ensure the program's success.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with mentors and networks to facilitate future mentoring opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on the program's progress and outcomes.
  • Observe student interaction with sponsors, including attending final presentations.
  • Maintain mapping of WIL projects against program learning objectives.
  • As needed, carry out interviews, observations and research related to the WIL activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student placements and project outcomes.
  • Participate in program reviews when required.
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal issues in relevant settings (for instance, a specialist working in the Office Administration
  • Healthcare program is required to be familiar with such issues in the healthcare field).

Working Conditions:
The position requires flexibility in work schedule as occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary. The position is located on-campus.
