Description

Reporting directly to the R&D Manager, the Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the daily activities in the laboratory and supporting projects and assignments as needed within the Scientific team.

This is a 12-month contract position providing maternity leave coverage.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

  • Manage laboratory inventory, monitor inventory levels, order materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, document orders upon receipt.
  • Lead 5S implementation in BSL 1 and BSL 2 laboratories as well as 2 protein laboratories, conduct laboratory inspections.
  • Develop new methods to improve laboratory efficiency.
  • Manage and facilitate the laboratory training program; review existing training, identify and conduct additional training required as per Change Control procedures; maintain training records.
  • Coordinate with OHS staff to develop and maintain safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the other departments, being the contact point for coordinating equipment maintenance, calibration and production scheduling.
  • Complete financial tasks related to SRED, IRAP or other funding opportunities, such as generating payment requisitions for external testing sites, arranging for invoice payments.
  • Support in the ordering and receiving of R&D materials
  • Support in lab testing as needed
  • Assist in projects and/or general scientific support activities as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor or Master degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, biology or related science), or a BSc with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a research laboratory
  • Demonstrates highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven training, teambuilding, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks & assignment concurrently.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in a BSL2 laboratory an asset
  • Experience of 5S/Lean 6 Sigma an asset
  • Knowledge of or experience with GLP, GMP work desired

The annual base salary for this job ranges from:
$52,000-$55,000
