As member of the Region of Waterloo International Airport management team, your knowledge, skills and leadership are valued and will be integral to the day-to-day operation of the airport.

You will be empowered to make decisions and implement policies, processes and procedures that enhance the day-to-day administration of the airport, including determining the best path forward for all aspects of the administration and finance portfolio.

You will work closely with your team and all airport staff and tenants in the interest of maintaining a safe and efficient operation that supports the continued growth of the Region of Waterloo International Airport.


The Opportunity:


  • You will be responsible for the creation of financial reports, collaborating with the Finance staff to ensure accuracy. You will work with the Finance staff to resolve issues and exchange information.
  • You will supervise accounts receivable and billing/invoicing for the airport. Ensuring all revenue is properly accounted for, recorded, collected, and deposited.
  • In this position, you will supervise the Airport Landing Fee Administrator (ALFA) system for collecting data, reporting, and generating invoices based on aircraft movements and both recurring and onetime fees.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that client and airport records are maintained and current.
  • You will supervise the management and administration of contracts and agreements for airport business activities.
  • You will support the creation of leases for space, land, and operational agreements and will establish requirements, conditions, and terms in accordance with policies and rules.
  • You will recommend annual fee increases for lease and operating agreements, coordinating with Regional Solicitors to discuss legal issues/lease preparations.
  • You will supervise property tax and assessment functions for airportowned and leased properties.
  • You will be responsible for supervising accounts payable functions.
  • You will establish, review, and maintain a system of financial procedures, methods, controls, and records in collaboration with Finance.
  • You will maintain communication with IT to discuss/resolve technology and system problems.
  • You will contact Ministry of Finance, Revenue Canada, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, and Township offices concerning municipal services, assessments, property taxes and HST issues.
  • You will responds to inquiries/complaints from the tenants, vendors, and airline carriers.
  • Knowledge normally acquired through a degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., business administration, accounting), plus progressively responsible related airport administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of financial budgeting and accounting, contract administration, and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Skill in commercial development administration, lease/licensing document preparation, Provincial programs, funding, cost sharing arrangements, and budget forms; and property tax as it relates to the airport and tenants.
  • Experience with airport business operations and related administrative requirements.
  • Must provide a Security Clearance from Transport Canada within 6 months of hire and/or as a condition of employment.
  • Must acquire a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) to meet federal security requirements within probationary period and/or as a condition of employment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, bylaws, collective agreements, related legislation and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving skills and detail orientation to resolve financial discrepancies and prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to plan and organize own and others' work to meet deadlines and operational requirements for effectiveness.
