    About this opportunity:

    The Senior Advisor, Strategic Engagement, is responsible for coordinating and supporting efforts that advance Cenovus's business goals through engagement and partnerships with external organizations. This role creates, negotiates, and facilitates major policy conversations and research projects around climate, the economy, Indigenous relations, and other issues important to our business. The successful candidate ensures that our stakeholder engagement plan is shared with public policy groups such as think tanks, academics, non-governmental groups, industry associations, etc.

    This is a multidimensional role that requires the Senior Advisor to use the following skills: engaging and networking with various collaborators, contact negotiation, event planning and leveraging their knowledge of policy work.

    What you'll do:

    Deliver on a cohesive plan to leverage sponsorships, partnerships, corporate memberships, in support of Cenovus's strategic priorities and to enhance the company's reputation as a responsible developer by:

    • Helping identify essential communication and engagement opportunities for the company and working with internal teams to implement those opportunities.
    • Supporting the Government Affairs team's policy work and finding advocacy opportunities in Canada and the US.
    • Coordinating company external sponsorships and corporate memberships (e.g. budget, relationship management, brand recognition).
    • Actively participating in Cenovus advocacy strategies by building and strengthening relationships with external thought leaders.
    • Assisting with the coordination of company committee participation and representing Cenovus on external committees, as appropriate.
    • Attending and ensuring senior leaders are provided with opportunities to attend relevant industry events.
    • Supporting the Pathways Alliance Stakeholder Engagement work.
    • Lead/support ad-hoc projects assigned by the Vice-President Government Affairs and the Senior Engagement Specialist by crafting and implementing project plans.
    • Staying informed on company news and operations as well as industry policy, business news and issues that impact Cenovus's reputation to make recommendations.

    Who you are:

    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
    • Completion of Post Secondary education in a related field.
    • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience preferably in the oil and gas industry.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to analyze complex issues and create an action plan/recommendations.
    • Confirmed excellence and achievement in project and organizational management, able to deliver high quality results under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong relationship building skills with a proven track record of being able to work across multiple groups and levels of an organization to achieve coordinated perspectives and responses to issues identified.
    • Experience in briefing and working with senior corporate leaders.
    • A keen interest in sustainability, advocacy, and policy issues; familiarity with leading trends, especially as they relate to the oil and gas industry.

    *This role requires the successful candidate to travel and attend events outside of business hours.
