Pre-press Technician Job Description:
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Facilitate and drive all aspects of the printing pre-press workflow. Understand systems based on workflow and software needs. Use knowledge of printing processes to carry out procedures of jobs based on quick turnaround.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Satisfies client preprint demands through client interaction.
- Finds ways to improve cost in the prepress as well as develop solutions.
- Trains and shares software developments based on department and company needs.
- Follows through with jobs to press to guarantee the best results.
- Tests software pertaining to the workflow of packaging.
- Proofs jobs in final approval stage for content, distortion, and traps.
- Handles multiple jobs in various production stages.
- Produces key jobs based on complexity and print runs.
- Analyzes customer files for fonts, images, integrity, and printability.
- Traps files and applies necessary pullbacks and changes to flexo / litho presses.
- Retouches images for better platability.
- Follows work instructions and control plans.
- Adheres to quality control procedures.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Associate
- Experience in Esko software considered an asset
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must be willing to continuously improve.
- Must be able to interact effectively with others and a good team player.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be proficient in using prepress operating platform.
- Must be able to learn new technology, including new/updated software and hardware.
- Must have basic office equipment and communication skills including copy and fax machines, telephone communication, and record keeping.
- Must have the ability to establish, maintain and retrieve permanent files.
- Must be able to meet and/or pass the minimum requirement on a mechanical test.
- Must pass color vision and color hue test.
- Must be able to maintain good attendance.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Education:
- High school or equivalent (required)
