Your Opportunity

  • Under the general supervision of the Director, International Education, the Retention Officer is responsible for tracking the retention of international students and analyzing the data. As a member of the Settlement Team, the Retention Officer will work with the team to come up with strategies to improve retention based on data collected.
    Functions and Duties
  • 1. Meets with all new and incoming students to identify their educational goals.
  • 2. Monitors progress of students in their program(s) to predict accurate retention rates.
  • 3. Assists in the development and administration of an International Retention Strategy.
  • 4. Develops a process to identify "at risk" students, academically or otherwise; identifying the appropriate resource to assist the student.
  • 5. In consultation with the International Education department and the Registrar's office, creates a process for monitoring and tracking students prior to arrival and ensuring a seamless hand off system of the potential student to the settlement team to start and assist the settlement process as early as possible. 7. Assists in the coordination of a system to ensure students have the opportunity to register for classes prior to their arrival in Canada.
  • 8. Collects and monitors risk management documentation for outgoing Canadian exchange students.
  • 9. Tracks and records history of outgoing Canadian exchange students 11. Collects and compiles data that will assist in promoting the international reputation and image of the College and raise awareness of local government and communities regarding the College's international partners and activities; data will be provided to appropriate positions for distribution.
  • 12. Ensures a quick and appropriate response to complaints, concerns and suggestions from faculty, staff, customers and students regarding student's progress.
  • 13. Collaborates with the Student Liaison to increase student satisfaction.
  • 14. Performs other duties as assigned.
    Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a fouryear university program in a related area or equivalent is required. A minimum 2 years' relevant experience is required.
    Skills and Abilities
  • Effective conflict resolution skills and ability to resolve sensitive issues
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Effective problem analysis and problemsolving skills
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
