Description:


  • Reporting to the Learning Commons Coordinator, the Makerspace Technician supports the Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Centre mandate by participating in the development and delivery of extracurricular, cocurricular, or crosscurricular animation. They are also responsible for helping to monitor and control access to the Makerspace and the equipment within.
  • More specifically, but not limited to, the Technician:
  • In collaboration with the STEM Learning Specialist:
  • Participates in developing, implementing and leading activities that promote science, technology, and student innovation, as well as activities that combine these areas with the arts (STEAM);
  • Proposes training materials, guidelines, and procedures for the Makerspace;
  • Communicates STEM Centre related information to the Vanier community through various channels;
  • Offers technical and logístical support to STEMrelated projects;
  • Develops and implements STEM activities, training, and workshops related to emerging technologies, including but not limited to, virtual reality, 3D printing, minicomputers and microcontrollers (e.g. Raspberry Pi and Arduino);
  • Ensures that the Code of Conduct is respected in the STEM area, to offer a peaceful and inclusive space to all Vanier students.
  • Related to the STEM Centre's Makerspace:
  • Ensures compliancy with regulations, guidelines, and procedures;
  • Collaborates with Security to ensure proper access control to the space;
  • Keeps an inventory of materials, equipment, and tracks incidents/damages;
  • Ensures that the space is clean and organized;
  • Creates and maintains a plan for the use of 3D printer(s), including workshops and supervision.
  • Contributes to Learning Commons teamwide mandates and special projects;
  • Carries out administrative duties for the STEM Centre, including tasks related to the budget and the physical space of the Centre.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

  • Schedule: Monday (9:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m.), Wednesday (9:30 am. 4:00 p.m.) and Friday (9:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m.) (18 hours/week, 44 weeks/year), with a seasonal layoff.

    Requirements:
  • Qualifications:
  • Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty, or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • At least one (1) year of pertinent experience (an asset);
  • Experience conducting demonstrations and/or workshops;
  • Experience with 3D printing;
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Basic French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (to be tested);
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication competencies;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and develop solutions;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with groups.
  • Experience in computer programming (an asset);
  • Experience with virtual reality technologies and prototyping platforms (an asset).
