The Security Guard at Respite Shelter plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff, and premises.
This position involves implementing security measures, monitoring access, responding to incidents, and fostering a secure and supportive environment within the shelter setting.

What does a Security Guard in Toronto do?:
- Monitor and control access points to the respite shelter, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed entry.
- Verify the identity of individuals seeking respite services and ensure compliance with shelter policies.
- Conduct regular patrols inside and around the shelter premises to deter and detect security risks.
- Use surveillance systems to monitor key areas and respond promptly to any unusual activities.
- Respond promptly to calls for service, emergencies, or security incidents within the shelter.
- Follow established protocols for various types of emergencies, including medical situations, conflicts, or security threats.
- Provide assistance and support to shelter clients, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
- Assist in implementing shelter rules and regulations in a compassionate manner.
- Administer immediate first aid and emergency assistance to shelter clients in need.
- Coordinate with emergency services as required.
- Operate video surveillance equipment
Qualifications to become a Security Guard in Toronto?:
- Possess a valid Ontario Security Guard license in accordance with local regulations.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certification Standard C approved by WSIB
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Empathy and sensitivity towards individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis.
- Training in conflict resolution and deescalation techniques.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in Tactical Security.
- Any Law Related educational degree/diploma /certification like Police Foundations, Criminology is an asset.
- Any pervious experience in handling people from the vulnerable section of the society is an asset
- 1 Year Military Experience is an asset
- Physical fitness for regular patrols and emergency response.
