SUMMARY


The
Building Performance Specialist I provides building energy engineering and re-commissioning services to optimize building systems and operations for the purpose of achieving greater energy savings for assigned buildings.

The building performance specialist will carry out technical surveys on mechanical and electrical systems.

They will investigate these various systems in order to propose solutions and improvements to standard HVAC equipment with a goal of optimizing building performance.

They will also perform savings calculations to evaluate and enumerate the benefits of the proposed solutions.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Energy Retrofit Project

  • Reviews current state of building equipment and identifies energy savings opportunities
  • Conducts analysis to determine project costs and expected energy savings
  • Prepares proposals summarizing project costs, expected energy savings and rationale for energy retrofit projects
  • Provides technical guidance to project managers/property managers for building energy retrofit projects
  • Reviews and/or develops scope of work in collaboration with project managers/ property managers
  • Provides recommendations for new product selections and current product upgrade opportunities
  • Assists in the development of measurement, verification and monitoring methodologies to verify energy savings

Re-commissioning Projects

  • Reviews current state of building operations to identify opportunities to improve occupant comfort and energy savings
  • Provides recommendations for inscope activities for recommissioning projects
  • Assists in the development of procedures to perform recommissioning activities
  • Performs recommissioning activities such as making operational and system programming changes
  • Develops documentations outlining findings, operational and system programming changes performed.
  • Provide training and awareness programs to property managers/ buildings operators

Green Buildings Certification

  • Conducts building operations and equipment audit and documents findings
  • Prepares reports providing descriptions of building systems and structural conditions as well as maintenance procedures that affect energy consumption
  • Provides recommendations for energy conservation projects to support green buildings certification attainment

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Minimum of 35 years relevant work experience with a university degree or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CET or equivalent courses etc )
  • Excellent knowledge of Construction Health & Safety Law and excellent knowledge of expectations from Ministry of Labour (MOL) inspectors. A good history/working relationship with MOL is highly desired.
  • Bilingualism in French and English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, details and specifications
  • Knowledge of current construction practices
  • Solid understanding of all construction trades
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Trade background an asset
  • A proven ability to coach, direct, and mentor a team of site employees and subtrades while liaising with clients.
  • Demonstrated creative problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to maintain composure while under high pressure, time sensitive project decisions while maintaining a sense of urgency
  • An ability to build and maintain exceptional relationships with both internal and external networks, including regulators
  • Exemplary work ethic
  • A construction related degree or diploma as well as plenty of field experience in order to take on a leadership role; and/or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • CEM, CVMP, RCx Agent or equivalent certifications are an asset
