Summary

Westerkirk Capital Inc. ('WCI'), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC, is seeking a Portfolio Manager.

The organization is a single-family office investment enterprise managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate.

Opportunity


The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for providing investment advice for a portfolio of long-term-orientated, direct, co-investment, fund, and private equity investments.

The focus of the successful incumbent will be to develop investment recommendations and to support the build-out of investment infrastructure for our expanding portfolios and platforms.

Accountabilities


Lead the investment team in the following areas:

  • Develop and maintain a trusted business relationship with existing clients.
  • Understand client and fund investment goals, preferences, and risk tolerances.
  • Use internal and external networks to source potential direct, coinvestment, fund, and private equity investments.
  • Use a systematic and structured approach to develop, research, and propose private equity investment theses.
  • Review and assess recommendations made by thirdparty consultants.
  • Lead the investment due diligence and onboarding process including coordination of thirdparty advisors and internal teams (legal, tax, etc.).
  • Monitor the relevant risks and opportunities of existing investments and any significant changes against the original investment thesis and strategy.
  • Systematically develop objective views on the longterm health and potential of investments within the portfolio.
  • Prepare and present investment cases to investors and boards advising them.
  • Continually refine and improve the investment selection and monitoring processes.
  • Stay current and provide updates on investment industry trends.

Qualifications:


  • Passion for investing, structured and strategic thinking, and private equity markets overall.
  • Proven track record of 5+ years of experience in private equity, investment banking, and/or family office investment roles.
  • Expertise in fundamental analysis and modeling.
  • Expertlevel user of Excel, with some coding experience.
  • Understanding of thematic investment trends and impact investing.
  • Preference for MBA and CFA charter holder or equivalent education/experience.
  • Able to travel as needed.
