    You must have the legal right to work in Poland at the time of application. There is no relocation or sponsorship support.

    British Council supports working in new ways such as hybrid working, subject to full approval by line management and conditional upon our ability to provide the appropriate level of service. This may not be appropriate for all roles but can be explored at interview.

    Role purpose

    The role will be part of the global Total Reward 'centre of expertise' team – a global team of total reward business partners, utilising global reward expertise to partner with the businesses and regions to ensure they are able to attract, recruit, retain and motivate the talent they need to achieve their business goals. With support from the wider team and working alongside the People function Director Total Reward, this senior role will have a specific responsibility for managing partnerships with global business unit leadership teams to ensure that global reward policy and practice meets their needs and where necessary developing new policies and approaches to address specific reward related issues. The role holder will also be responsible for leading on development and implementation of UK pay strategy and policy, which requires complex stakeholder management including across UK Government, internally with the Senior Leadership Team and also Trade Union Side.

    Role Context

  • The global Total Reward team are a 'centre of expertise' team within the Global People function with responsibility for developing and adapting Total Reward Strategy and 'Principles' and quickly developing solutions to Total Reward issues as they arise.
  • The team are expected to both fully understand the strategic context of British Council and they need to utilise their knowledge of reward trends and best practice when developing and adapting reward strategy, principles and processes.
  • There will be four 'regional' Total Reward Business Partner roles with a geographic focus to develop and tactically implement reward processes in the regions.
  • This specific role will have more of a cross-cutting global focus as it will be responsible for managing Total Reward business partnering and consulting with the Global business areas.
  • This role will also have accountability for leading on the tactical implementation of UK reward policy and practice and specifically ensuring that British Council reward practices are compliant with Civil Service reward guidelines and controls
  • Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Role-holder will be expected to utilise their best practice total reward knowledge and experience and knowledge of British Council strategy to contribute to developing and adapting global, business area and regional reward strategies, principles and processes
  • Ensures that they remain up-to-date on external best practice reward policy and processes and UK legislation in relation to reward practice.
  • To contribute to the development of briefing materials and to deliver training and briefings to regional and business area leadership teams on global reward strategy and reward principles and new reward initiatives.
  • Consultancy, Analysis and Problem Solving

  • Role-holder will be expected to utilise their best practice total reward knowledge and experience and knowledge of British Council strategy to contribute to developing and adapting global, business area and regional reward strategies, principles and processes
  • Ensures that they remain up-to-date on external best practice reward policy and processes and UK legislation in relation to reward practice.
  • To contribute to the development of briefing materials and to deliver training and briefings to regional and business area leadership teams on global reward strategy and reward principles and new reward initiatives.
  • Relationship and Stakeholder Management

  • To maintain working relationships with external UK government stakeholders to understand Civil Service reward frameworks and controls apply to British Council and to discuss British Council UK pay award business case.
  • To consult with Trade Union Side in the UK on UK pay issues and to engage with them on the UK pay award process
  • To maintain tactical relationships with regional and business unit leadership teams so as to provide insightful total reward expert advice and also to incorporate their views into global and regional reward strategy and process development
  • Requirements of the role:

  • Written and verbal proficiency (CEF 1) in English is required
  • Evidence of completing Total Reward specific CIPD (or equivalent e.g. World at Work) formal training (e.g. pay structure design, developing reward strategies, communicating reward practice)
