Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of the Cancer Registry, the incumbent participates in the collection, abstraction, utilization and analysis of complex medical data for the Provincial Cancer Registry.

Accurately encodes all related cancer data from numerous sources, including cytology, pathology, autopsy reports, Report of Malignant Neoplasm forms, admission/separation data from the provincial hospital abstracting system, vital statistics listings and hospital and clinic charts.

Collects stage data for all reportable primaries following the AJCC TNM staging guide and utilizes the SEER Multiple Primary and Histology (MPH) and/or Solid Tumor Rules (STR) when registering cases.

Maintains confidentiality, has the ability to work independently or in a team setting and is willing to assume a variety of assignments as required.

Qualifications:

Required: _
Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management Program (2 year)
Experience with ICD-O 3rd Edition (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology), ICD 9CM/ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification), and CCI (Canadian Classification of Interventions) coding.
Experience in MAXON Plus, Varian MedOncology, and Enterprise Viewer/Client Registry computer systems.
Knowledge of SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Program) Multiple Primary and Histology coding rules and/or SEER Solid Tumor Rules.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
Excellent oral/ written communication and organizational skills
Sound judgement and problemsolving skills
Must be able to legally work in Canada
Must have a satisfactory employment record
Preferred:_
Certified Tumour Registrar (CTR)
Experience in collaborative staging and/or AJCC TNM staging system
Three years' experience as a cancer registrar in a cancer registry or related discipline
Asset:_
Member of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
Member of or eligible for membership in the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
Ability to speak French
