Applications are invited for the position of Disability Management Specialist in the Human Resources Division, located at the Welland Campus.

The salary range is $68,911to $86,140 for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of disability and attendance related support programs, policies, processes, and standard operating procedures
  • Ensuring effective communication and administration of all aspects of the nonoccupational disability management process, while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy and integrity of the information obtained
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Services team and college management
  • Reviewing medical information and facilitating early and safe return to work for shortterm disability (STD) absences
  • Managing all medical accommodations, providing recommendations and communication to all parties involved
  • Initiating all nonoccupational longterm disability (LTD) claims and serving as the direct contact throughout the claims process
  • Reviewing all WSIB claims, providing case management support and collaborating with all parties to monitor return to work/accommodation plans while ensuring compliance with WSIB legislation
  • Primary liaison with Niagara College's Employee and Family Assistance Program provider

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of three (3) year degree/diploma in Disability Management, Human Resources, a healthrelated field such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Kinesiology or a similar field of study
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in disability case management, in a large unionized and multifaceted work environment
  • Completion of courses in Occupational Health & Safety and Disability Management
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including; Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code, and AODA
  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return To Work Coordinator (CRTWC); Certification (or working towards obtaining certification) is considered an asset
  • Team oriented individual with excellent consultative and diplomatic skills
  • Working knowledge of current psychological and physical interventions is preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, negotiating and mediation skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues tactfully and confidentially
