What the job is


We are currently seeking an
In-House Counsel to join our team in Toronto, ON to provide a range of legal advice and support related to our business and its operations.

Responsibilities:


  • Support the business teams from a legal standpoint in the acquisition, procurement, construction, and operation of major mixed use real estate development projects.
  • Draft, review, analyze and negotiate complex agreements, opinions, memoranda, and legal documents to manage risk and ensure that the company's objectives are achieved.
  • Draft and review a variety of legal documents including but not limited to: employee contracts, confidentiality agreements, construction agreements, development agreements, and financial reports, all while appropriately balancing business risk and opportunity.
  • Provide support in corporate governance, business acquisitions, procurement, construction and operational disputes, litigation oversight, real estate planning and development matters.
  • Maintain and manage legal department database, template agreements and budget.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with project partners, consultants, external legal counsel, industry players and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee and direct external counsel; interpret and disseminate legal advice and recommendations to business teams.
  • Review and adapt company template agreements to meet evolving corporate goals.
  • Providing practical and strategic legal, and risk management advice as a member of the team involved in all major business decisions.
  • Ensure that Greenland operates within the legal requirements of the local, provincial and federal regulations regarding trade, governance and employee rights.
  • Participating in negotiations with City officials regarding municipal planning matters including zoning, permits etc.
  • Keep abreast and report on legislative changes to business teams.
  • Represent Greenland in relations with representatives of government, stakeholders, consultants at all times. Present a positive and professional image of Greenland.
  • Other legal duties as assigned.

Required Skills:


  • University degree in law (LL.B. or JD) and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in one or more of the following areas: construction law, real estate law, procurement law, project finance law and corporate law.
  • Superior drafting and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Decision making process based on ethics and integrity.
