YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking two motivated individuals that will provide direct service delivery to youth ages 12-17 who have been or are currently involved in the justice system to identify and address their needs, leading to reduced involvement with the justice system.


The Youth Support Workers will be responsible for positive relationship building, effective caseload management, supportive counselling, and facilitation of educational workshops to program participants.

YMCA YOUTurn is available to youth from any socio-economic and cultural background who are reintegrating out of detention, institution, are on probation, have re-offended or have relocated for personal safety.

YMCA YOUTurn supports youth from Edmonton and rural communities through a client-centred approach of meeting youth where they are at, identifying, and building on their protective factors and natural supports.

Essential Functions

  • Accepting referrals from referring agencies and completing intakes.
  • Completing participant assessments as required.
  • Onetoone support with youth/families.
  • Connecting with youth's professional and natural supports.
  • Completing community referrals for youth/families.
  • Facilitating workshops with youth.
  • Facilitating Peacekeeping Circles with youth and their supports.
  • Promoting the program at community of practice meetings.
  • Attending internal/external training opportunities / conferences / webinars.
  • Completing monthly / annual reporting requirements.
  • Collect statistical information as defined by funders and YMCA.
  • Ensure timely, effective communication with program partners.
  • Comply with all YMCA and program financial targets where assigned.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management.
  • Contribute as a member of the staff team in the operation of the program, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, and values and the YMCA programs and services.

What You'll Need for This Job

  • University Degree in Human Services or related education.
  • Annual registration in a professional organization as required by law.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Child Welfare & Police Security Clearance and WHMIS Certification
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
  • Edmonton Police Services Enhanced Clearance Check (To be completed following start date)
  • Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract, and access to a vehicle with two million dollar liability insurance.
  • 2 years of experience working directly with youth who have barriers or risk factors in their lives.
  • Experience working with cultural groups and marginalized populations.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
