POSITION:
Resident Care Assistant (RCA)
REPORTS TO:
Nurse Manager (Charge Nurse)
ROLE:
Under the direction and supervision of registered Nurse, the Resident Care Assistant (RCA), shall provide services in Long Term Care in accordance with the Long-Term Care Act and Ministry of Health Regulations and guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures and promotes the provision of resident-centred care to meet the needs of residents as follows:
- Promotes the Resident's Bill of Rights.
- Promotes the philosophy and practices of resident centred care in all residents' encounters and decisions.
- Respects and uses sensitivity in spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a resident's life.
- Maintains a wellness perspective.
- Creates a comfortable and safe environment that provides opportunities for privacy and dignity.
- Assists residents in choosing their food preferences.
- Uses assistive and adaptive measures feeding.
- Positions residents for feeding at 90 degrees while sitting in the chair at the table.
- Observes and reports any changes in the resident such as "unusual or different" aspects of their "norm"
- Follows special instructions for individual feeding and swallowing problems of a resident
- Provides dining room service to resident
- Feeds residents at their own pace
- Feeds food one food at a time conversing with resident and identifying each as given
- Includes residents in conversations during meals
- Reports and records significant observations (e.g. food and fluid intake, hydration)
- Reports to PSW amount of food and fluids resident consumed after each meal
- Porter residents as needed
- Respond call ball and get assistance
- Take laundry to Clean Utility Room, place personal laundry in resident's room, place towels in resident's washroom
- Pass nourishment
- Deliver food/beverages to residents
- Clear the tables of dishes and cutlery after resident finished to eat
- Face timing with resident and family
- Respond the phone and get message/assistance as needed
- Distribution of nursing supplies and continence products to the designated area(s)
- Tables
- Doorknobs (both sides of door and locks as well)
- Light Switches
- Handles
- Desks
- Toilets (especially flushers)
- Faucets
- Sinks
- Countertops
- Phones (and cell phones)
- Laptop and computer mouse/keyboard
- Remote controls (television, garage, etc.)
- Padlock pads
Front Entrance - Screening
- Screen employees and essential visitors using available tools/records
- Perform Rapid Antigen Testing on staff and visitors as required (Training will be provided).
- Inform employees and essential visitors to sanitize hands and don surgical mask/face shield
- Provide memos/postings as required
- Receive deliveries and inform departments as required
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Work in team cooperation with:
- Personal Support Workers
- Registered Practical Nurse
- Director of Care
- Assistant Director of Care
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 certificate preferred
- Proficiency in oral and written English; have a keen interest in working with the elderly.
- Facilitate in both official languages an asset.

Salary:
$18.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
COVID-19 considerations:
All who enter the facility are required to wear a medical mask and eye protection.
Proof of 2nd dose Covid-19 vaccination or medical exemption required.
Screening and Rapid Antigen Testing required upon entry to the facility.
