Your opportunity:


We at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Teaching Lab group are responsible for purchasing, setup, security, maintenance, and day to day operation of over 380 computers, essential components of experimental learning of students.


Under the general direction of the Director, Teaching Labs, the Laboratory Computer Support Specialist provides computing support, server administration, programming & scripting, and documentation necessary for operation of the Teaching labs.

The incumbent is also responsible to serve as a first point of contact for laboratory technology support for ECE students.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Setting up, installing, modifying, and servicing desktops, workstations, printers, computer hardware and any other authorized peripheral equipment, as well as updating the systems with the latest security updates and patches.
  • Setting up windows / Linux file and license servers.
  • Use standard tools for drive duplication / imaging, and hardware diagnostic.
  • Responding to service requests in a timely fashion.
  • Providing detailed explanation on computing procedures.
  • Serving as a technical resource on hardware and software related issues.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years recent and relevant experience of providing IT support with Windows, both desktop and server environments.
  • Experience with system administration on server systems (Windows server, Linux).
  • Thorough knowledge of PC hardware and system software.
  • Excellent organization and timemanagement skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with limited technical backgrounds.
  • High degree of initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn continually 'onthejob', on own initiative, often without instructors, courses, texts, or other formal educational resources, to keep abreast of often rapid changes in requirements, software and technology, in the context of a highly dynamic leading Computer Science department.

Assets (Nonessential):


  • Experience with Linux.
  • Knowledge and experience in Ethernet networking and troubleshooting both wired and wireless.
