Addictions Counsellor
Full Time - 35 hours/week


Duties to Commence:
As soon as possible until June 28, 2024


Position Description:


This position is connected to the Mental Health in Schools Pilot grant from the Government of Alberta, designed to support the mental health needs for students in the Division.

This position has been designed to provide direct services to student clients. This would involve direct counselling for students who have been identified as requiring supports related to addictions. Addictions may be related to technology, substance abuse, gambling, etc.

This position will be based out of St. Albert and will be required to travel to all 18 school sites in our Division communities
  • St
. Albert, Morinville, and Legal.

The Addiction Counsellor will have to be flexible in the hours of work, dependent upon the needs of the community, the work may be before/after school hours or in the evening and possibly weekends.


Qualifications:


  • Formal training in providing counselling services

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Committed to being a model and witness to Christcentered education values and beliefs.
  • Knowledge of addiction and mental health is required
  • Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families
  • Strong relationshipbuilding skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Takes initiative and is able to work independently as well as collaborate in teams
  • Skill and knowledge of facilitation, positive communication and creative thinking
  • Solid comprehension and practice of personal and professional boundaries
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships with young people
  • Creative problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
  • Comfortable liaising with community members, school staff, community agencies and healthcare providers
  • Community collaboration/networking skills
  • Resilience and a commitment to personal development
  • Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to show an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties
  • Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
