Reporting to the Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer, we are currently looking for a Vice President, Compliance & Risk to lead our Enterprise Risk, Compliance, Corporate Insurance and Business Continuity Teams.

In this business-critical role you will be responsible for the ongoing development of the Enterprise Risk Framework and driving forward an approach of continuous improvement to ensure best practices are adhered to.


As VP Compliance & Risk you will:

  • Act as a collaborative leader by building clarity and support for the Compliance, Risk and Insurance teams; ensuring they are structured and resourced to deliver on their strategic and operational accountabilities, and that succession planning is addressed as required.
  • Provide management and oversight of the Enterprise Risk Dashboard and Heat Map for presentation to the Emera Risk and Sustainability Committee and the Emera Board.
  • Provide oversight of the Compliance Management System for Emera Corporate and Affiliates to ensure development, implementation, and maintenance of effective compliance programs in conformance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Oversee Business Continuity Program development.
  • Ensure that Emera's risk transfer and retention strategy supports Emera's Corporate strategy and reflects Affiliate risk appetites, while seeking greater efficiencies and improved outcomes.
  • Supervise Corporate Insurance and Loss Control Programs.
  • Work with Emera risk owners and affiliates to identify and assess High Impact Risks of the business and report on these to the Emera Risk & Sustainability Committee.
  • Review external and internal environment to identify emerging risks, primary risks and secondary risks comprising Emera's enterprise risks along with controls, interdependent risks, velocity to impact and other aspects of risk assessment and management

What skills will make you successful?
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess many if not all the skills and experience listed below:

  • A minimum of 8+ years demonstrated experience leading functions within a complex and/or multi-national organization that address risk, compliance, controls and risk mitigation.
  • Degree in accounting, finance, law, engineering, or related field; including MBA or other relevant risk management, regulatory or professional qualification preferred.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in the areas of corporate risk, compliance as well as appreciation for complex corporate structures and processes.
  • Broad understanding and knowledge of industry best practice for risk management.
  • Collaborative stakeholder management skills, robust planning skills, and delivery capabilities to ensure timely and effective deliverables.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of an organization as demonstrated by proven ability to generate recommendations which improve the business and are accepted by management.
  • Ability to handle simultaneous, multiple tasks and changing priorities in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively and within time and budget constraints.
  • Executive presence and excellent communication skills.
