CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA


Strategic Engagement and Advocacy plays a central role in the identification, development and nurturing of strategic relationships with key external stakeholders across Canada.

The department promotes the CMPA's value proposition to external stakeholders, gathers intelligence to identify opportunities for CMPA to advocate on behalf of its members and develops mechanisms to create and support shared situational awareness of the stakeholder environment for all stakeholder engagers.


POSITION OVERVIEW


Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Engagement and Advocacy, the Healthcare Policy Strategist, Stakeholder Relations, is responsible for analysing information drawn from regular environmental scanning of the Canadian healthcare environment and making and modifying recommendations to inform the development and continuous improvement of CMPA's strategic engagement and advocacy programs.

In addition, the Health Policy Strategist collaborates with internal partners in the environmental scanning process and is responsible for drafting stakeholder profiles and advocacy briefs for use by internal stakeholder engagers.

The Health Policy Strategist works with internal stakeholders to identify informational needs and develop products, reports, and briefs to meet both ongoing and situational needs.


POSITION ACTIVITIES

  • Collect, monitor and analyse data from the external and internal environments and report on potential opportunities and threats relevant to the mission and vision of the Association;
  • Develop insight into the significance of collected information, identifying relationships and drawing inferences between various data points
  • Provide viewpoints, advice, backgrounders, briefs, reports, and presentations to inform decisions that affect strategies, directions, actions, and budget; and to inform stakeholders on CMPA activities.
  • Monitor regular stakeholder information needs and devise processes to proactively meet those needs (e.g. provincial/territorial medical association negotiation cycles with government)
  • Provide expertise and advice on the optimal approach to collecting accurate and timely stakeholder and partner data, including the identification of key contact information;
  • Maintain up to date stakeholder profiles
  • Work with internal partners to develop reports, briefs, and profiles on key stakeholders and topics
  • Advise on data collection procedures and data outputs;
  • Work with team to input strategic data and insights into CRM to ensure robust and uptodate data and contribute to the quality assurance process of stakeholder data.
  • Produce regular situational awareness reports tailored to the needs of different external engagers

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Fouryear degree plus Master's Degree, or professional designation equivalent to 2 or 3 additional years of education
  • A minimum of 79 years relevant experience in a research and/or policy role
  • Experience in reviewing and analysing environmental and stakeholder information
  • Experience in planning and providing recommendations on complex issues
  • Experience with enterprise risk management programs and reporting regimes;
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment to achieve organizational goals
  • Excellent computer skills for word processing, presentation, and research
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the healthcare system is an asset
  • Experience with project management is an asset
  • Experience with evaluation and data analysis is an asset

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strategic thinker, with strong research methods;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Strong communication skills to distill complex issues and present them in an understandable manner
  • Sound problemsolving skills and the ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Advanced writing skills to draft reports, backgrounders, presentations and briefs
  • Strong interpersonal communication and networking skills to gain relevant information with various organizations;
  • Proven ability to work independently, possessing good judgement, and initiative to set and achieve challenging goals
  • Tactful, good judgement and diplomatic;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

POSTING DETAILS

  • Job Type: Regular Full-Time
  • Salary Range: $97,900 to $118,000 annually classified as a level
  • Location
    :Hybrid
  • Primary Remote Job. You can work from a homebased office the majority of the time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular onsite presence at the CMPA office (12 days per week). If you prefer, you can choose to work out of the CMPA office in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow's Lake.
    This position cannot be performed fully remotely.
