We are looking for a
Pursuit and Competitive Intelligence Advisor to join our
Toronto office.


The Pursuits and Competitive Intelligence Advisor is part of the Markets Team with responsibility to support all Firm practices in areas of strategic proposals, and management of the Firm's M&A deal and transactional process.


This role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong project management skills, excellent communication/writing abilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and lawyers.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead Business Proposal Development_
  • Acts as the lead for the proposal development process that includes the gonogo decision, evaluation of requirements, securing executive management approvals of the firm's participation in all bids, providing recommendations with respect to bid team composition and pricing strategies;
  • Responsible for drafting and compiling content for new business pitches, RFPs, RFQs, RFIs and other types of formal proposals at both the national and regional levels;
  • Leads the production process for proposal submissions, including drafting of responses, workback schedules and compliance with requirements;
  • Develop and edit proposal content, in line with proposal strategy and bid requirements;
  • Engages the Knowledge Management team in the development of work plans where required;
  • Ensures solution consistency, message, and win themes are reflected throughout the response;
  • Conducts proposal qualifications, debriefs and uses feedback to establish best practices;
  • Reports on bid wins and losses, analyzes trends and makes recommendations for process improvement and greater visibility of activities and results within the Firm;
  • Tracks, maintains, updates and archives pitches and proposalrelated information in the firm's various databases to support collateral development, website updates, directory listings, rankings, and other profilebuilding activities

These databases include:
- "Wins" database;

  • Proposal archives;
  • Representative work database;
  • Alternative Fee Arrangement (AFA)/pricing database;
  • Precedent Clauses database.
  • Transactional Practice support_
  • Manages all aspects of the transaction database including the consistent and accurate collection of transactions and cases, verification and reporting of key business information;
  • Liaise with lawyers and Markets team to prepare and deliver timely business information in a variety of formats for league table submissions;
  • Research external information such as Refinitiv, Bloomberg, Capital IQ and other market intelligence platforms;
  • Work with members of the Finance team to fill information gaps related to transaction and case information;
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and best practices;
  • Frequently engage with partners and associates across all Miller Thomson offices to gather transactional information for promotional purposes;
  • Utilize a variety of sources, including industry reports, market research, news articles, and primary research, to gather relevant information;
  • Tracks and maintains M& A deals and transactional work.

What you'll bring:


  • College/University degree (with a major in marketing or business preferred) and/or equivalent years of work experience in a business development;
  • 5+ years of experience within a professional services environment, preferably in a law firm;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven experience in competitive intelligence, market research, or strategic analysis;
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Must be meticulously organized, detailoriented and energetic;
  • Efficient and effective project management;
  • Must be able to provide strategic advice, especially in regard to the gonogo decision, to leaders and other practitioners in the respective industries and specialties and be creative regarding solutions presented;
  • Capable of working independently, multitasking and prioritizing;
  • Should be flexible to meet the needs of the firm and the job;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without ongoing supervision;
  • Stellar client service abilities and experience working with all levels of an organization;
  • Proficient working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoin
