Security Guard
Temporary Call In

Location:
Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position involves shift work in safeguarding buildings, equipment and property against damage or loss, enforcing regulations, and assisting in the provision of a safe environment for clients, staff and visitors.

This position works primarily from security booth within the Emergency Department patient waiting area.

Qualifications:
" Completion of High School supplemented by a recognized certificate/diploma in law enforcement/security;
" Completion of other courses/training relevant to the performance of duties listed below;
" Experience involving security i

e:
Commissionaire or other formal security work within a larger organization;
" Possesses a valid driver's license;
" Good communication skills and an ability to deal effectively with the public;
" Must be certified to carry out the physical requirements of this position;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct.

Duties:
(Included but not limited to)
" Works independently;
" Makes rounds inside and outside buildings watching for prowlers, fires, or any other danger of loss or damage to property and potential threats to the safety and well-being of clients, staff and visitors;
" Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which cannot be disposed of immediately, to the appropriate authorities;
" Investigates thefts, vandalism, disturbances, traffic accidents, fire hazards; questions witnesses and makes reports regarding incidents and related circumstances;
" liaises with law enforcement officers;
" Completes written reports
" Directs traffic and enforces traffic laws and regulations;
" Ensures that only authorized persons are admitted to grounds and buildings;
" Properly stores vehicles or equipment left on the premises by employees;
" Enforces smoke-free policy on Labrador Grenfell Health property;
" Assists nursing staff in controlling/managing violent situations/aggressive clients;
" Requests assistance from RCMP as required;
" Performs other related duties

Salary:

" CG - 23 of the NAPE HS Salary Scales, $ per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:
" Variable shifts.
