- Maintains all engines and does all the general maintenance and repair around the rig
- Ensuring that guards removed for maintenance purposes are replaced as soon as possible prior to the operation of the equipment
- Maintain housekeeping around motors and oil house. Keep all oil and grease off the floor. Oilcans must be clean and water free
- Checking that all fan belts are kept tight and report cooling system or oil leaks
- Ensure that pop valves on the compressor are working properly
- Never wash down the generator and electrical panels with a water hose at any time.
- Keeping the Driller informed as to the need for hand tool repairs or replacement
- Ensures that all covers are replaced on switches and connection boxes after repair
- Checking and maintaining safety equipment, fire extinguishers and breathing apparatus
- Ensuring that the tool rests used on stationary electric grinders are installed and no more than 3mm (1/8") clearance between the tool rest and the wheel
- Be prepared to work on a rotating shift schedule that operates 24 hours a day
- Be well‑coordinated
- Be able to work safely and quickly, and think ahead to the next procedure
- Be in good physical condition (strength and agility are necessary)
- Enjoy working as a member of a team
- Understand the some operations involve work at remote locations involving camps

- Ability to mentor less experienced and less mechanically inclined personnel new to rig
- Previous motorhand experience required
- Associated training tickets for region and activity. These may include, but are not limited to: H2S Certification, First Aid, Common Safety Orientations
- Ensign's HR/HSE Induction and assigned training per Regional Training Matrix
- Any client specific training for site access
- Required Certification:
- H2S Alive
- Standard First Aid
- Fall Protection / Rig Rescue
- Special Oilwell boilers
- Loader Operator Training
- EnCAAP
- Certificates depending on the type of well & location
- Any Site specific training required by Operator
- Able to communicate effectively and take instruction from others
- Previous Motorhand experience
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds daily
- Business Ethics – Understands fully Ensign's ethics policy and its application in all business dealings including contractual agreements and contract negotiations
- Business Policies - Understands and agrees to follow all of Ensign's Policy and Directives and procedures as set forth in the Ensign Company Policy and Basic Directives Handbook for Employees
- Certifications – Maintains technical and safety certifications required by company or government agencies; remains current on all OSHA, EUSD and other required training
- Drug-free workplace - Conforms to a drug-free workplace, not be under the influence of mind‑altering prescription or non‑prescription drugs, including alcohol and other drugs of abuse.
- Occupational Health and Safety – Understands fully the Ensign Health and Safety policy and self‑responsibility for own health and safety at work; Demonstrates responsibility to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission
- Uses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment
- Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self‑corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor
- Avoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques

Description
JOB SUMMARY
T he motorhand role works with the floorhand on the drilling rig floor, handling drilling equipment. This role is typically responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the engines and other equipment on location. The motorhand works closely with the floorhand and driller, and may relieve the driller once qualified to do so. If there is a designated trade person on site, the motorhand will assist with maintenance or focus their activities on working with the floorhand(s) and assisting with other tasks.
