The Role

We are looking for an Assistant Controller with strong financial accounting and interpersonal skills to join the dynamic team at our dog-friendly home office in Vaughan.

We aim to provide outstanding accounting support to our family of clinics, so that veterinarians can focus on what they do best.

The role will report directly to the Controller and will have several direct reports. If you are looking for a flexible and high growth work environment, this is the role for you


Responsibilities

  • Lead team to complete periodend tasks and meet all reporting deadlines
  • Review reconciliations and promote best practices to ensure proper accounting and controls are in place
  • Prepare memos on the accounting treatment of certain transactions
  • Create new reports & perform analysis to meet changing business needs
  • Process documentation & process improvements
  • Collaborate with other teams/departments on projects that require accounting insight
  • Ensure the Clinic Accounting team provides high quality accounting support to the clinics
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary supporting documents during yearend audit
  • Hire, onboard, train, and retain skilled accounting staff
  • Ad hoc projects as assigned

Background, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 23 years experience in a leadership role
  • Industry experience is an asset
  • Post Secondary Degree in accounting
  • Solid understanding of ASPE and IFRS
  • Proficient in MS Office with advanced Excel skills
  • NetSuite experience is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills;
- demonstrated ability to manage a team

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to solve problems independently
  • Detailoriented, organized, good time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude, willingness to be flexible, desire to contribute to team objectives
  • Comfortable working in a dog friendly environment, when visiting the office
