Position Description:

***: The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Supervisor provides direct leadership and supervision of Medical Device Reprocessing Technician activities. This role supervises day to day operations to ensure safe, efficient practices ensuring that policies/procedures/standards are maintained and responds to quality assurance issues. The supervisor is able to inspect all operational areas of the MDR dept and work collaborative with the Manager and Healthcare Team to identify, implement, and sustain quality improvement strategies. The supervisor monitors staff performance, productivity, accuracy, and quality within the department. The position will be provided with a hospital communication device (e.g. iPhone and mobile device) for daily use. This position requires 10-hour shifts, alternating week-ends and vacation coverage.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Community College Diploma in a related discipline required
  • MDR certification required
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSA standards and medical device reprocessing practices.
  • Experience hospital/OR environment required
  • Two to four years of recent supervisory experience
  • Acts; Occupational Health and Safety, WSIB, Human Rights, Employment Standards
  • Certification in Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS), ability to maintain records of training dates for annual review
  • Comprehensive knowledge of systems and equipment used to provide services
  • Able to identify and assess the learning needs of staff
  • Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills
  • Effective presentation and writing skills
  • Effective knowledge of computer skills and programs (Excel, Word, Photo Shop, PowerPoint, TDOC, and Outlook)
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous education in healthcare related fields
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet clinical units needs and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve, make recommendations for change, implement and evaluate
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, including organizing, prioritizing, scheduling and managing work assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ability to work and navigate in a high paced complex healthcare environment
  • Ability to work as part of a highly functioning Perioperative Management Team
  • Strong ability to supervise frontline teams
  • Proven ability to reprioritize daily processes as many competing demands change and unforeseen issues arise
  • Oversees day to day operations to ensure timely, accurate, cost effective provision of service for hospital operations.
  • Acts as primary liaison with the OR and all other hospital departments.
  • Monitors standards to ensure compliance with ministry, IPAC, and CSA standards.
  • Daily review / audit of biological tests and recording procedures.
  • Procurement of instruments for hospital trays and/or coordinating with hospital units to facilitate ordering.
  • Maintenance of T-DOC Asset Management System Database.
  • Manages Dovetale reports to create efficiencies and meet operational needs.
  • Creates, reviews and revises staff schedules, workload, rotations and staffing complement as required to meet the demands of the departments and maintain compliance with the collective agreement(s)
  • Ensures adequate staffing by proper management of human resources for relief, vacation, illness, etc.
  • Advises and directs staff. Supervises employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently.
  • Reviews staff concerns
  • Enforces hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Conducts inservice education and training programs for MDR staff.
  • Develops, implements and communicates performance measures; performance appraisals for direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Demonstrates and facilitates the development of staff behaviors which are consistent with the mission and vision of both the hospital and the department
  • Strong working knowledge of Healthcare software programs and systems (e.g. TDOC, Incident reporting, Payroll, HEMM, dovetale)
